Boat Song
▹Woodkid Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

We packed our bags and said farewell
Untied the knot and raised the sail
We threw our hearts into the sea
Forgot all of our memories

The wind was sweet and smelled of home
The sea was rough and felt unknown
Escaping shores of lunacy
Dawn light, twilight, infinity

Can we keep our bearing straight
Or will we be blown off course
Are we instruments of fate?
Do we really have a choice?

A voice whispers in the gales
Like in the songs and childhood tales
Where krakens raging in the sea
Crack ships into a million pieces

Can we keep our bearing straight?
Or will we be blown off course?
Are we instruments of fate?
Do we really have a choice?

We threw our hearts into the sea
Forgot all of our memories

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Woodkid’s song Boat Song convey the idea of leaving the past behind and embarking on a new journey. The singer packs their bags and says farewell, leaving behind memories and ties. As they head out to sea, there is a sense of uncertainty and apprehension, as the wind is sweet but the sea is rough. The lyrics question whether our lives are determined by fate, or if we have the power of choice. The ominous voice whispering in the gale symbolizes the unknown dangers of the sea, and the possibility of being blown off course or destroyed. However, despite the potential threats, the singer surrenders to the sea and throws their heart into it, ready to forget the past and embrace new experiences.

The song Boat Song creates a metaphor for life - where the sea represents the journey of life, and the boat represents our means of navigating it. The lyrics suggest that we must be willing to take risks and trust in the journey, even if it means leaving behind the familiar and the comfortable. The song also reminds us that while there are dangers and uncertainties in life, we still have the ability to choose our own direction.

The only negative thing about the VMM setup is that the folk behind it seem to have interest in communicating with nor answering queries from users. Maybe there are exceptions for some uploads but I have to see any.
