In "Lie to Me," Ne-Yo croons about his desire to escape from reality and not deal with the truth. He wants to be numb, to not feel anything, so he asks his partner to lie to him. He wants to pretend that his partner's phone never rang, and they were not talking to anyone. He wants to believe that they were not with anyone else and that they did not leave when they said they did. Ultimately, he needs to believe his partner's lies, even though he knows the truth. He doesn't want to know what he knows to be exact because it's too painful. He only wants to hear another lie so that he can continue to live in denial.
The lyrics illustrate a case of denial in a relationship. Ne-Yo's character is willing to believe any lie that can make him feel better, even though he knows it's not the truth. He wants to hold onto a false reality and escape from the harsh truths and uncertainty of reality.
