Valentine's Day
● Linkin Park Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

My insides all turned to ash, so slow
And blew away as I collapsed, so cold

A black wind took them away from sight
And now the darkness over day, that night
And the clouds above move closer
Looking so dissatisfied
But the heartless wind kept blowing, blowing

I used to be my own protection, but not now
Cause my path has lost direction, somehow
A black wind took you away from sight
And now the darkness over day, that night

And the clouds above move closer
Looking so dissatisfied
And the ground below grew colder
As they put you down inside
But the heartless wind kept blowing, blowing

So now you're gone, and I was wrong
I never knew what it was like to be alone

On a Valentine's Day, on a Valentine's Day
On a Valentine's Day, on a Valentine's Day
On a Valentine's Day (I used to be my own protection)
On a Valentine's Day (but not now)
On a Valentine's Day ('Cause my mind has lost direction
On a Valentine's Day (somehow)
On a Valentine's Day (I used to be my own protection
On a Valentine's Day (but not now)

On a Valentine's Day ('Cause my mind has lost direction
On a Valentine's Day (somehow)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Linkin Park’s song “Valentine’s Day” depict the feeling of loss and emptiness after losing someone close. The first two lines of the song describe the physical sensation of the singer’s insides turning to ash before blowing away as they collapse. The use of the color black and darkness throughout the song highlight the sadness and emptiness felt by the singer. The “heartless wind” blowing symbolizes the notion that the world keeps moving despite one’s personal loss.

The second verse uses repetition of the phrase “On a Valentine’s Day” to emphasize the day on which the singer lost their loved one. The singer previously protected themselves, but they’ve now lost their way without their loved one. They feel alone and directionless. The clouds moving closer and looking “so dissatisfied” reinforces the singer’s feelings that even the universe does not feel sympathetic towards them.

Overall, the song is a somber reminder of the pain one feels after losing someone close to them. It highlights the feelings of loneliness and loss that can permeate even the most mundane experiences.

I went through a period of where I didn't like BFMV and other Metalcore bands, but even though I used to think of how much they were all too Emo back then, I still always had a love for their sound production, and it just made Me appreciate the bands as a whole anyway!

Not that many would care, but do bare in mind that there are still a lot of Metalcore I don't like!

Anyways, My favourite Metalcore bands are...

Killswitch Engage, AllThatRemains, As I Lay Dying, BulletForMyValentine!

So far, they are My top bands I really admire!
