The recent music video for Highly Suspect's latest single Lydia falls into the category of, "I can't believe this exists." It's shot in
realtime, and the entirety of its four-minute run time features an actress tied down at the bottom of a pool, trying her damnedest to break free.

The first question you're probably asking yourself is, "How on earth can anyone hold their breath that long?!" Well, the actress in this video is actually world champion freediver Marina Kazankova. Here's TS&R to explain why she was the perfect choice for this production:
Marina Kazankova, former freediving champion and world record
holder, is best known underwater for her ‘dynamic breath hold’, or the ability to athletically move and exert energy while holding her breath.
On land, Marina is also an actress and global traveler, speaking several languages (quadrilingual), and once we heard Marina could swim the length of almost four Olympic-sized swimming pools... on a single breath, we knew we had found our character.

She does a great job acting. Unconscious going in, then a slow return to consciousness. The confusion about her situation at first. She instinctively looks up still not comprehending her situation. Then slowly her eyes pan over the ropes binding her arms and then her legs. Slowly (and that is the key) slowly it dawns on her. The panic first appears in her eyes. The disbelief. Then the slow panic that builds until she is almost free only to find that one more rope binds her. But she doesn't have anymore life left in her and the resignation of her situation. Love it.

I love this song with my entire being. I have a dark past and background with family members forcing hard drugs in me as a child and having their way with me. I’m haunted to this day and even the law has failed me. I was assigned this song by a family member to describe what he did to me. It was chemical and psychological warefare instilled into me as a child. It sucks that’s why he gave me this song but goddamn it’s a beautiful song that perfectly depicts it. That you all hired some amazingly skilled person like a free diver capable of holding their breath for inhuman amounts of time and then recorded this all in one magical take. That's the kind of story that makes for legendary songs and videos right there. When it comes to music, it's rare to hear something so close to perfection. Regardless of your musical taste, this song is the epitome of what it means to be dynamic. The lyrics find that sweet spot between serving the song phonetically and what they are trying to convey. The hook is catchy, not overdone, and different every time. The song structure is unique but not self-indulgent. The vocals aren't singing for the listener. They're singing to get something out despite who is listening. The solo, which is incredible, does exactly what it needs to in order to serve the song. And whoever produced this song, which I will look up after posting this, was out to prove something.
