Honey
★Moby Lyrics

If my honey comes back sometime
I'm gonna rap that jack sometimes
Get a hump in my back sometimes
I'm going over here sometimes

Way down yonder sometimes
Gonna get my pal sometimes

Overall Meaning

Moby's song Honey is a melancholic yet uplifting track with lyrics that are open to interpretation. The aforementioned verse seems to be about a person waiting for their loved one to return. The line "If my honey comes back sometime" suggests that the person could be separated from their significant other for whatever reason. They then say "I'm gonna rap that jack sometimes," which might imply that they will tell their story or sing about their experience. "Get a hump in my back sometimes" means that the person has been emotionally weighed down by the absence of their significant other. "I'm going over here sometimes" probably means that the person is going through a phase of aloofness and is trying to distract themselves from the pain of missing their loved one. "Way down yonder sometimes, gonna get my pal sometimes" seems to be referencing a happier time in the past when the person and their friend or partner were together.

Overall, the lyrics of Honey touch on themes of separation, loneliness, and hopefulness. The singer is dealing with the pain of missing their loved one but still holds onto the hope that they will return. The emotions are expressed through cryptic lines and metaphors that give the listener space to interpret the song's meaning. It's a beautiful piece with a simple melody, and the lyrics add to the hauntingly beautiful atmosphere of the track.

I was in a really low place inside my head in 2002. I had a choice, let my anger spill over or turn that energy into something positive.

This song was a huge part of me choosing the latter.

It has since all worked out for the best.

I hope that if you're reading this while listening to this song, you find the same path.

Thanks Moby!

This was always me and my dad's song. He was fighting terminal cancer but died at home on Friday. At the end, when he was non-responsive and we couldn't find words to fill the space, each of us kids sang him a song and this was the song I sang to him. He really loved music and I have beautiful memories of driving around with my dad in the TJ, looking at ocean, blaring this song.

I had a phenomenal Dad. What a powerful experience. You have a rich life because you knew this love. That is awesome, be well, always.
