Sunday
♥Sia Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

For those who've slept
For those who've kept
Themselves jacked up
How Jesus wept
Sunday
Sunday

For those in need
For those who speed
For those who try to slow their minds with weed
Sunday
Sunday

For those who wake
With a blind headache
Who must be still
Who will sit and wait
For Sunday, to be Monday

Yeah, it will be okay
Do nothing today
Give yourself a break
Let your imagination run away

For those with guilt
For those who wilt
Under pressure
No tears over spilt milk
Sunday
Sunday

Sunday
Sunday
Sunday

Yeah, it will be okay
Do nothing today
Give yourself a break
Let your imagination run away

Yeah, it will be okay
Do nothing today

Give yourself a break
Let your imagination run away

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Sia's Sunday talk about the different situations that people find themselves in and how they cope with them. It starts by addressing those who have slept and kept themselves jacked up, suggesting sleeplessness and perhaps substance abuse. The lines "How Jesus wept, Sunday, Sunday" followed by repetitions of Sunday suggest that the day of rest is being sought out for solace. The second verse talks about those in need and those who try to escape their problems with drugs, again looking towards Sunday for comfort. The third verse talks about those who wake up with a hangover and must sit and wait for the day to pass, again looking to Sunday as a beacon of hope.

The chorus suggests that it's okay to take a break and not do anything for the day. It asks the listener to let their imagination run free, perhaps suggesting that creative outlets can be used as a form of escapism. The final verse addresses those who feel guilty and wilt under pressure, again suggesting the need for a break and for Sunday to come to an end. The repeated "Sunday" at the end follows the repetition of the same word throughout the song, signaling that the need for rest is ongoing.

Overall, the lyrics of Sunday suggest a need for rest and relaxation, and the title itself symbolizes the day of the week when people typically have time off to recharge.

FYI-

Sia, who co-directed the visuals with Daniel Askill, tweeted. "All I can say is Maddie and Shia are two of the only actors I felt could play."

Further explaining the video, she said LaBeouf and Ziegler represent "TWO WARRING 'Sia' SELF STATES"

"I apologize to those who feel triggered by #ElasticHeart," Sia later went on to tweet. "My intention was to create some emotional content, not to upset anybody."

Jenna Waldman Again with the subjective realities. Very scary. Very dangerous.
You need an extreme level to accuse?
Sad indeed. Maybe it is that it is too late and the desensitizing is too deep.
How ironic will it be when you come face to face with the reality that you have accepted and promoted.
When you realize just how unimportant your life will be seen as. How you will be dispensable. Just another animal one above an ape. That a woman is just a means to create another disposable animal.
They have eyes but cannot see.
It makes one laugh at the cries of "think for yourself" when you people do nothing of the sort.
You promote that sex,morality,abuse, should be entirely subjective. The world you people want will happen. You will then realize the folly of your ways. But it will be too late.
All this "thinking" but you cannot see past the end of your nose.
You go right ahead and defend it. It will come back to harm you. I guarantee.

The people who say this is paedophilia should be ashamed of themselves! This is a story of Sia and her father's mental illness. The cage represents the illness. Eventually Sia got it under control, but her father stayed in the cage for the rest of his life. And you fools immediately claim paedophilia. Why? Because they are dancing together and one is older. Honestly grow up people.

@mybestfriendruper4187

I don't get ppl they assume bad things

@eleniallen2518

Mariah Cardoso Ikr!

@TheRanchNumber51

Ummmm, maybe because their costumes represent being nude? The girl is too sexualized in this video.

@halloweenlover1398

Wow! that would literally mean the past 5 videos or so, Sia has been sexualizing, a now, 14 year old. Shame on her.

Like seriously come on, she's wearing a leotard. Wearing a leotard, is not an uncommon thing, and definitely shouldn't be considered sexual.

People are reading way too much into this.

@halloweenlover1398

Well not reading way too much in this.. But people are trying to make it more then it really is.

Like the Joker said:
"The worst part about having mental illness is that people expect you to behave as if you don't".
