Crawling
♥ Linkin Park Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Crawling in my skin
These wounds, they will not heal
Fear is how I fall
Confusing what is real

There's something inside me that pulls beneath the surface
Consuming, confusing
This lack of self control I fear is never ending
Controlling
I can't seem
To find myself again
My walls are closing in
(Without a sense of confidence I'm convinced
That there's just too much pressure to take)
I've felt this way before
So insecure

Crawling in my skin
These wounds, they will not heal
Fear is how I fall
Confusing what is real

Discomfort, endlessly has pulled itself upon me
Distracting, reacting
Against my will I stand beside my own reflection
It's haunting how I can't seem

To find myself again
My walls are closing in
(Without a sense of confidence I'm convinced
That there's just too much pressure to take)
I've felt this way before
So insecure

Crawling in my skin
These wounds, they will not heal
Fear is how I fall
Confusing what is real

Crawling in my skin
These wounds, they will not heal
Fear is how I fall
Confusing, confusing what is real

There's something inside me that pulls beneath the surface
Consuming (confusing what is real)

This lack of self control I fear is never ending
Controlling (confusing what is real)

Overall Meaning

Linkin Park's hit single, Crawling, is an emotional and powerful song that deals with the feelings of insecurity, helplessness, and fear that we all experience at some point in our lives. The opening line, "Crawling in my skin," sets the tone for the song and expresses the deep-seated feeling of being trapped, helpless, and alone. The repetition of "These wounds, they will not heal" indicates the emotional pain that haunts the singer.

The next line "Fear is how I fall" further reinforces the message that fear can have a paralyzing effect and can cause us to spiral out of control. The lyric "Confusing what is real" highlights the challenge of differentiating between what is genuine and what is imagined when overwhelmed by fear and emotions.

The pre-chorus "Without a sense of confidence, I’m convinced that there's just too much pressure to take" is yet another powerful statement on the struggles of self-doubt and anxiety. The chorus repeats the same lines, driving home the message that the singer is struggling with their demons and can't escape from their own feelings.

The second verse delves deeper into the feelings of discomfort and insecurity, with the line "Against my will I stand beside my own reflection," emphasizing the difficulty of self-examination when one's emotions are out of control. The bridge ties everything together, with the singer acknowledging that they have felt this way before, but are unable to break the cycle.

Overall, Crawling is a song that tackles the complex and often-unspoken struggles of mental health, loneliness, and anxiety with a raw and emotional honesty that has resonated with millions of fans across the globe.

[Lyrics]

When you were standing in the wake of devastation
When you were waiting on the edge of the unknown
And with the cataclysm raining down, insides crying, "Save me now"
You were there, impossibly alone

Do you feel cold and lost in desperation?
You build up hope, but failure's all you've known
Remember all the sadness and frustration
And let it go
Let it go

And in a burst of light that blinded every angel
As if the sky had blown the heavens into stars
You felt the gravity of tempered grace, falling into empty space
No one there to catch you in their arms

Do you feel cold and lost in desperation?
You build up hope, but failure's all you've known
Remember all the sadness and frustration
And let it go
Let it go

Do you feel cold and lost in desperation?
You build up hope, but failure's all you've known
Remember all the sadness and frustration
And let it go
Let it go
Let it go
Let it go
Let it go

Do you feel cold and lost in desperation?
You build up hope, but failure's all you've known
Remember all the sadness and frustration
And let it go
Let it go

After a childhood listening to nothing but country music, I began listening to rock in high school. Linkin Park was one of the first bands I heard and they were an instant favorite because their sound was so unique. Chester's gritty, soulful voice and Mike's clear, clean melody just made them one of the few bands I consistently would crank up the volume when one of their songs would come on the radio and sing along.

Chester, you were the voice of a generation. Some, like me, found you in our teenage years when we were looking for an identity. Others grew up listening to you. Losing you is like losing a dear childhood friend, someone a lot of us never met, but loved and held dearly. You'll be missed by a world you were taken from all too soon.

But your memory will live on in the people who loved you and your music. Your spirit will shine through every time a stereo is cranked to maximum over cheap car speakers, the driver singing along at the top of their lungs while they drive down a highway. You will be remembered, you will be loved, you will be missed deeply.

And one more thing...

Thank you, Chester, for everything...

@@miltonacosta6784 Not really. Apart from the Bumble Bee spinoff the Transformers movies kinda sucked.

@@duckhawkninja3614 The first two were actually not bad. They started going downhill with the third, but I do agree that the BumbleBee movie was redeeming.
