I Want To Break Free

I want to break free
I want to break free
I want to break free from your lies
You're so self satisfied I don't need you
I've got to break free
God knows, God knows I want to break free

I've fallen in love
I've fallen in love for the first time
And this time I know it's for real
I've fallen in love, yeah
God knows, God knows I've fallen in love

It's strange but it's true
I can't get over the way you love me like you do
But I have to be sure
When I walk out that door
Oh how I want to be free, baby
Oh how I want to be free
Oh how I want to break free

But life still goes on
I can't get used to living without, living without
Living without you by my side
I don't want to live alone, hey
God knows, got to make it on my own

So baby can't you see
I've got to break free
I've got to break free

I want to break free, yeah
I want, I want, I want, I want to break free

Overall Meaning

"I Want to Break Free" is a song by the British rock band Queen, released in 1984. Though the song's meaning may not be entirely clear, it is widely believed to be a declaration of the band's desire to break free from the constraints of their record label, EMI. The first verse speaks to this sentiment directly, with lines like "I want to break free / from your lies" and "You're so self-satisfied, I don't need you." The song expresses the band's frustration with being told what to do, and their desire to assert their artistic agency.

The second verse takes a different tack, expressing a more personal desire for freedom. Lead singer Freddie Mercury sings about falling in love for the first time, and wanting to be free to pursue that love without any constraints. The line "But I have to be sure / When I walk out that door" speaks to the tension between wanting to follow one's heart and being uncertain about what that might mean for the future.

Despite the song's mixed messages, "I Want to Break Free" remains one of Queen's most popular songs, and a classic of the rock canon. It has been covered by many artists over the years, and is still played on radio stations all over the world.

@@sutiszorny8039 He was, I think, as most of us, sometimes very happy and sometimes very sad.

It's stupid to say "he wasn't truly happy", he had authentic moments of pure joy and extazy that you can associate to real happiness.

You can feel this positive energy in a lot of songs he made ; if he hadn't found sometimes real happiness in his life, he would never have been able to write such music.

But, of course, this joy and happiness weren't permanent ; he also had his moments of pure loneliness and pain, for sure.

You can find a good illustration of what I mean in the song "Pain is so close to pleasure"

Cheers!

Dee do dee do day
Dee do dee do dee do dee do day oh
Sometimes I feel I'm gonna break down and cry, so lonely
Nowhere to go, nothing to do with my time
I get lonely, so lonely, living on my own.
Sometimes I feel I'm always walking too fast, so lonely
And everything is coming down on me, down on me, I go crazy
Oh so crazy, living on my own.

He is the kind of genius that writes the catchiest melodies, but with the most depressing lyrics.
