Get It Right
♫The Offspring [1993 - Ignition] Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've been told that to get what you want
You just gotta give what you can
But I know for what I want it don't come easy as that
They say, "Look out, boy
Tomorrow comes and things will look better by then."
But I'll look out the window
Then look in the mirror at the same old me again
[Chorus]
Still can't get it right
And for all I know
I swear I never will

Do you think you'd sell your soul
To just have one thing to turn out right?
For the thousandth time you turn and find
That it just makes no difference to try

Like Holden Caulfield, I tell myself
There's got to be a better way
Then I lay in bed and stare at the ceiling
Dream of brighter days

[Chorus]

No way out
Same old stuff always drags me down

No way out
Never gonna get it

Overall Meaning

The song "Get It Right" by The Offspring is about the struggle of trying to achieve one's goals in life. The lyrics suggest that even if someone is willing to give everything they have to achieve their goals and follow the advice of others, it may not always result in success. The song's title "Get It Right" implies that the singer has been trying to find a solution or a way to succeed, but they are still unable to achieve their goals.

The chorus "Still can't get it right and for all I know, I swear I never will" suggests that the singer has become disheartened and has lost faith in their ability to succeed. The reference to Holden Caulfield, the singer from J.D. Salinger's novel "The Catcher in the Rye," suggests that like Holden, the singer is struggling to find meaning and purpose in their life.

@@moegoldstein99 Well, it's hard to say, in my case, I think the biggest regret I have is letting opportunities go, be it with women, to go somewhere, to learn new stuff.

We should be more driven, of course it doesn't mean that you should try hard drugs because you have to take the chance, take risks but mind open doesn't mean reckless.

Travel, going to new places gives you new perspectives in life.

Workout: take care of your body since now, after 25 it becames a lot easier to get fat, but if your body is prepared and well taken care of, you won't feel age hit you as hard as other people.

And the fourth one: use sunscreen. Every day, twice, for the rest of your life.
