SPARK
♫ Amy MacDonald Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Don't wanna see the stars
Don't wanna see the moon
Don't wanna see the sun
That rises up too soon

Don't wanna see the day
Don't wanna see the night
Oh the afternoon it feels about right

I am a spaceman flying high
I am the astronaut in the sky
Don't worry, I'm ok now
I am the light in the dark
I am the march
I am the spark
Don't worry, I'm ok now

After the sun always comes the rain
Followed by hurt and pain
After the light comes the dark
After the love comes the breaking of my heart

I am a spaceman flying high
I am the astronaut in the sky
Don't worry, I'm ok now
I am the light in the dark
I am the march
I am the spark
Don't worry I'm ok now

I am a spaceman flying high
I am the astronaut in the sky
Don't worry, I'm ok now
I am the light in the dark
I am the march
I am the spark
Don't worry I'm ok now

Just dry your tears and I'll be there

Don't leave for anger or despair
Don't worry, I'm ok, I'm ok now

Overall Meaning

The song "Spark" by Amy MacDonald is about dealing with pain, struggle, and loss in life but still maintaining hope and the will to carry on. The first verse describes the desire to avoid seeing the natural cycle of life - the stars, moon, sun, day, and night - because it can be overwhelming and unpredictable. In contrast, the singer identifies with being a spaceman, an astronaut flying high in the sky, and a light in the dark. These images represent an escape from reality and suggest that the singer is still searching for something beyond the regular routine of life that can bring them joy and hope.

The second verse highlights the fact that after the sun comes the rain, and after light comes dark. The singer admits that life can be difficult and that even after experiences of love, heartbreak and pain can follow. However, they repeat the idea of being a spaceman, an astronaut, a light in the dark, and a spark, reinforcing the message that they will endure despite the hardships. The chorus repeats this idea twice more, but this time adds the line, "Just dry your tears and I'll be there", reinforcing the idea that the singer wants to be a source of comfort and support for those who are struggling.

Overall, "Spark" is a song about the human condition - the pain, beauty, and struggle that we all experience in life. Amy MacDonald's lyrics highlight the importance of hope, determination, and the ability to find joy and beauty even in the darkest moments.

@@ToeMunchEnja I believe I know how you feel. I too wrestle with certain possibilities and being a practical man coming to terms with my own experiences proved very difficult. I can't nor would I try to convince you because you have to have your own experience. Word alone is not enough, even if you did experience something you might think you're in need of medication.

I am not talking psychics or spiritual meetings, I can only tell you of my parent's experiences. My father died in 1973 but six weeks before he told my mother his sister Amy came to him. she sat down on the bed just before father left the bedroom and told him it was time for him to prepare for his passing. She made two visits. After my father passed away it was mid-1984 whilst my mother was watching television when she saw my father sat opposite her.

she thought she was losing her mind and left the room. She returned with a cup of tea but father was still there. This continued for the next eighteen months every two months or so, my mother passed away in 1986. My sister received visitations from our mother apparently to let her know she was alright, I never received any such visits.

I cannot prove or disprove these claims, but when I was stationed in Germany I was on duty on my own when I had a number of experiences that were beyond explanation. However, I ventured to mention to fellow troop members what had happened and was told, "why do you think duty was taken in the guardroom". I have no explanation as to what happened, but suffice it say, it was not pleasant. This probably proves nothing to you as it's just my word, but I know what I saw and I would not try to convince you one way or the other. Justin.
