these days
♫ Foo Fighters Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

One of these days, the ground will drop out from beneath your feet
One of these days, your heart will stop and play it's final beat

One of these days, the clocks will stop and time won't mean a thing
One of these days, their bombs will drop and silence everything

But it's alright, yeah it's alright, said it's alright
Easy for you to say
Your heart has never been broken
Your pride has never been stolen
Not yet, not yet, one of these days
I bet your heart 'll be broken
I bet your pride 'll be stolen
I'll bet, I'll bet, I'll bet, I'll bet
One of these days, one of these days

One of these days, your eyes will close and pain will disappear
One of these days, you will forget to hope and learn to fear

But it's alright, yeah it's alright, said it's alright
Easy for you to say
Your heart has never been broken
Your pride has never been stolen
Not yet, not yet, one of these days
I bet your heart 'll be broken
I bet your pride 'll be stolen
I'll bet, I'll bet, I'll bet, I'll bet
One of these days, one of these days

But it's alright, yeah it's alright, said it's alright
Yeah it's alright
Don't say it's alright, don't say it's alright
Don't say it's alright
One of these days your heart will stop and play it's final beat

But it's alright, easy for you to say
Your heart has never been broken
Your pride has never been stolen
Not yet, not yet, one of these days
I bet your heart will be broken
I bet your pride will be stolen
I'll bet, I'll bet, I'll bet, I'll bet

Overall Meaning

The song These Days by the Foo Fighters appears to be a reflection on mortality and the inevitability of death. The lyrics describe the various ways that death can come to a person, from the ground dropping out from beneath their feet to bombs dropping from the sky. The repetition of the phrase "one of these days" serves to emphasize that death is always looming, and that no one can escape it.

The second half of the song shifts focus to the idea of loss and heartbreak. The singer acknowledges that while it may be easy for some people to say that everything will be alright, they have likely not experienced the pain of having their heart broken or their pride stolen. The final lines of the song return to the opening theme of death, emphasizing that no matter how much we might try to deny or ignore it, our time on earth will inevitably come to an end.

In summary, These Days by the Foo Fighters is a meditation on the fleeting nature of life and the inevitability of death, with a focus on the emotional pain that can come from loss and heartbreak.

When I hear this long time ago when it was a big hit in 2003, I had no idea this was from the Foo Fighters, no wonder this is such a really great song, it was the one I remembered the most, I wish they played this song during my 8th grade promotion 3 years especially the acoustic version, but no, they had to play the crappy new music at the time like Black Eyed Peas and Katy Perry. Now I really hope this play this song during my high school graduation next year, I am not going to hear Miley Cyrus play during my graduation, I will not.
