Science
♫ System Of A Down Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Making two possibilities a reality,
Predicting the future of things we all know,
Fighting off the diseased programming
Of centuries, centuries, centuries, centuries

Science fails to recognize the single most
Potent element of human existence
Letting the reigns go to the unfolding
Is faith, faith, faith, faith

Science has failed our world
Science has failed our Mother Earth

Science fails to recognize the single most
Potent element of human existence
Letting the reigns go to the unfolding
Is faith, faith, faith, faith

Science has failed our world
Science has failed our Mother Earth.
Spirit-moves-through-all-things
Spirit-moves-through-all-things
Spirit-moves-through-all-things,
Spirit-moves-through-all-things
Spirit-moves-through-all-things
Spirit-moves-through-all-things

Letting the reigns go to the unfolding
Is faith, faith, faith, faith
Letting the reigns go to the unfolding
Is faith, faith, faith, faith

Science has failed our world
Science has failed our Mother Earth

Spirit-moves-through-all-things
Spirit-moves-through-all-things
Spirit-moves-through-all-things
Spirit-moves-through-all-things
Spirit-moves-through-all-things
Spirit-moves-through-all-things
Spirit-moves-through-all-things
Spirit-moves-through-all-things
Spirit-moves-through-all-things
Spirit-moves-through-all-things
Spirit-moves-through-all-things

Spirit-moves-through-all-things
Science has failed our Mother Earth

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of System of A Down's song Science explore the limits of science and the importance of faith in the natural world. The opening lines of the song suggest that science has the power to predict the future and bring possibilities to reality, yet it is unable to fight off the negative effects of centuries of harmful programming. The repetition of the word "centuries" emphasises the idea that science has failed to address long-standing issues that continue to threaten our world.

The second verse highlights the failure of science to recognize the importance of faith - a concept that is often at odds with scientific rationality. The idea of "letting the reins go to the unfolding" refers to the idea of surrendering control and allowing things to happen naturally. Faith, in this sense, is about trusting in the natural world and the universe to guide us, rather than relying solely on our own understanding of how things work.

The repetition of the line "Science has failed our world / Science has failed our Mother Earth" serves to reinforce the central theme of the song. While science has given us incredible advances, it has also failed to address the bigger picture - the impact of our actions on the planet we call home.

LYRICS 🎵🎵

The Kombucha mushroom people
Sitting around all day
Who can believe you?
Who can believe you?
Let your mother pray
Sugar
Sugar

I'm not there all the time, you know
Some people, some people, some people
Call it insane, yeah, they call it insane (sugar)
I play Russian Roulette everyday, a man's sport
With a bullet called life, yeah, mama, called life (sugar)
You know that every time I try to go
Where I really wanna be
It's already where I am
'Cause I'm already there

The Kombucha mushroom people
Sitting around all day
Who can believe you?
Who can believe you?
Let your mother pray
Sugar

I got a gun the other day from Sako
It's cute, small, fits right in my pocket
Yeah, right in my pocket (sugar)
My girl, you know, she lashes out at me sometimes
And I just fucking kick her, and then, ooh baby, she's okay (sugar)
People are always chasing me down
Trying to push my face to the ground
Where all they do is suck out my motherfucking brains, my brains (sugar)

The Kombucha mushroom people
Sitting around all day
Who can believe you?
Who can believe you?
Let your mother pray

I sit, in my desolate room
No lights, no music
Just anger
I've killed everyone
I'm away forever, but I'm feeling better
How do I feel?
What do I say?
Fuck you, it all goes away
How do I feel?
What do I say?
Fuck you, it all goes away
How do I feel?
What do I say?
In the end it all goes away
How do I feel?
What do I say?
In the end it all goes away
How do I feel?
What do I say?
In the end it all goes away
How do I feel?
What do I say?
In the end it all goes away
How do I feel?
What do I say?
In the end it all goes away
How do I feel?
What do I say?
In the end it all goes away
In the end it all goes away
In the end it all goes away
In the end it all goes away
In the end it all goes away

You know a song is going to be a banger when youtube warns you

@ConstantlyDamaged

Yeah, not sure when they added that. This song is nearly old enough to get a license and drink—and they suddenly decide it's sensitive and my logged-in ass needs to approve it?

@ChrisPoindexter98

@@ConstantlyDamaged IKR, it might be too based and "redpilled" (the old meaning), anti-establishment vibes, so they're like, "can't let people get access to this third-eye-opening video too easy."

Esp. weird since we're logged-in, yeah...maybe the 100 million plus views on an official VEVO music video scared YouTube, and from what I can tell the brief, real life clips of people hanging is I guess what tipped them over, not to mention descriptions of domestic abuse, actual footage of mass tragedies, and the almost naked gal near the beginning.

Hell, maybe the emotional urgency and rawness of this whole thing might seem "too scary," which...I mean...for a small child, maybe, 🥴 or if one is in a vulnerable state of being. 😳🤷🏻‍♂️

@not_yo_cheez

This is my first time watching it since they’ve added it. It’s weird.

@ConstantlyDamaged

@@ChrisPoindexter98 I have no problem with there being a warning, I just would like, as an adult in their 40s, to be able to auto-skip such (even if I have to see it once for each video, being able to ignore for future viewings would be nice).

@ChrisPoindexter98

@@ConstantlyDamaged 💯 23 here, and absolutely, since we're users, it's like, come on, our "info" is saved there so we may as well have that convenience. 👌🏻

You are in a room with NO LIGHTS and NO MUSIC. But when you hear the crowd cheer, you know it’s going to be this song.

@Blastoff24001aj

@Charles Michiru Gallo but in the end, the feeling goes away!

@stillmeme493

Yes how did you know🍷

@Blastoff24001aj

@@stillmeme493 That’s literally how you follow the song!
