Happy End’s albums blended Western folk singing with Japanese melodies. Its members were 細野晴臣 (Haruomi Hosono, bass, vocals), 松本隆 (Takashi Matsumoto, drums, from the band Apryl Fool), 大瀧詠一 (Eiichi Ohtaki, guitar, vocals), and 鈴木茂 (Shigeru Suzuki, guitar, vocals). They originally belonged to the URC Records recording label, and later the Bellwood Records label. Hosono later went on to join the Yellow Magic Orchestra.
In 2003, the Happy End song “Kaze Wo Atsumete” appeared on the Lost In Translation movie soundtrack.

Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The lyrics to はっぴいえんど's song 春らんまん depict the arrival of spring and the anticipation of its arrival. The song begins with the singer observing someone who they believe to be Spring passing by, but with a cold and detached gaze. The scent of daphne fills the air as the singer wonders if Spring will listen to the sound of the coming season. The second verse introduces the image of a woman with black hair and blushing cheeks adorned with a hairpin made from apricot, accentuated by the soft wind. The lyrics then express the fleeting nature of spring, as it is quickly replaced by the heat of summer and the cold of winter.
The interpretation of these lyrics is one of appreciating the beauty of spring when it is present but also acknowledging the transience of life. The idea that spring is more than just a season is a central theme in the song. It is given human qualities such as sight, smell, and the ability to listen. The fleetingness of spring is also emphasized as it comes and goes quickly, never lingering. The lyrics also use various metaphors to create vivid images of spring: the scent of daphne, the flower-laden rain under the umbrella, and the seasonal changes brought about by heating and cooling systems.
