Who's playing this in 2021 like me?
After all these years.
Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side
The summer's gone, and all the roses falling
'Tis you, 'tis you must go and I must bide.
But come ye back when summer's in the meadow
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow
'Tis I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow
Oh Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so.
But when ye come, and all the flowers are dying
If I am dead, as dead I well may be
You'll come and find the place where I am lying
And kneel and say an "Ave" there for me.
And I shall hear, tho' soft you tread above me
And all my grave will warm and sweeter be
For you will bend and tell me that you love me
And I shall sleep in peace until you come to me.
Terry Ross
Here we see someone who can hold a note perfectly, unlike todays singers who go up and down on a note because they know they can't hold it like this. This is art.
Donna Marie Valentine
Yes. Also The Righteous Brothers' Bobby Hatfield singing "my wedding song" "Unchained Melody!" Just amazing! The version where he is wearing the "pink" jacket!
DON OVERBY
For my money, this version by Andy Williams is the best I've seen. It's done live in a TV studio in front of a live studio audience and millions of folks watching on TV (back then, only three channels). Indeed his voice was so pure, so beautiful. And he sang those amazingly long notes with no punch-ins, no pitch correctors, no effects on his vocal... just his magnificently controlled vocal instrument, on perfect pitch, with such expression of loneliness... absolutely the best! He was an amazing talent, and funny as hell every week on his show... thanks for sharing this, Louis!
Neil Gibson
The only best ever version was at the 1988 olympics. Look it up. There s no emotion comes closer than the The Trainer.

My grandfather would always cry when he heard this song play. He served in WW2 and his best friend sang it. They were both being shot at, my grandfather made it but his friend didn't. Beautiful song.

My 99 year old Dad died this week. He used to sing this song, and when I was young he told me the story behind it. He was in WW2. I’m looking for the perfect version of it for his funeral
