Originally calling themselves the A Cappella Circle when they were at the University of Waseda, they changed their name to the Gospellers in 1991 after graduating. They spent the next ten years working towards national recognition, releasing 24 singles and 9 albums during that time. They became the first complete a cappella group to be in the top 3 of the Oricon chart ranking in Japan with their song, "HITORI".
In early 2006, the group made a side-project release, Gosperats, featuring the members in blackface and singing with a jazzier accompaniment Rats & Star's member Masayuki Suzuki, Nobuyoshi Kuwano and Yoshio Sato. Many of the western Gospeller fans were upset about the outrage it caused on some discussion forums, many non-fans felt offended by the blackface the group members had chosen to take on. Fortunately, this project was announced as a side-project and released only one album under its name.
The members of Gospellers are now producers for several Japanese artists, including Tatsuya Ishii and Masayuki Suzuki. (This text has been cited from Wikipedia)

The lyrics of ゴスペラーズ(The Gospellers)'s song "いろは" seem to be a playful and creative exploration of language and the power of words. The song starts with the recitation of the English alphabet from A to Z, emphasizing each letter. This repetition of the alphabet serves as a symbolic representation of the diversity and range of language. The lyrics then mention the author's own "クチ" (mouth), which is busy with typing and hitting the 26 keys of the keyboard. This metaphor suggests that the author is actively engaged in expressing themselves through words and music.
The song highlights the significance and versatility of the Japanese language. It mentions how the 26 letters from A to Z can instantly transform into hiragana or kanji characters, reflecting the fluidity and adaptability of linguistic expression. The lines "鋭敏なAビートが美意識のCD" (A sharp beat is a CD of aesthetic consciousness) exemplify the wordplay and creative use of language found throughout the song.
The lyrics also explore the idea of naming and labeling emotions. It suggests that by giving a name to one's feelings, they become a sound, a symbol, or a mere notation. The song encourages listeners to find their own words and use their own voices to define and express what something means to them. It emphasizes the importance of personal interpretation and encourages individuality in both language and expression.
Overall, "いろは" is a playful and thought-provoking song that celebrates the power and beauty of language and encourages listeners to embrace their own unique linguistic expression.
