The band's roots trace back to 1975, when Kuwata Keisuke was part of a popular group Better Days. The group saw many changes to its name and members. It was when keyboardist Hara Yuko and bassist Sekiguchi Kazuyuki joined the group that it had a permanent name.
After more and more changes of members, the group finally saw light as they released their debut single 'Katte ni Sinbad' in 1978.
January of 2000 saw the release of TSUNAMI, which was #1 on the Oricon charts for 5 weeks, selling almost 3 million copies. The single was marked the 3rd best-selling one in Japan.
In 2003, HMV Japan announced Southern All Stars to be the No.1 Japanese pop artist in its survey of “Top 100 Japanese pops Artists” all-time.

Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴
You know I want you to remember
(Kimi dake ni yume o mou ichido) talk about the feeling of longing for someone and reminiscing about past love. The song begins by expressing the remnants of a dream left behind on a cold shirt, like a mirage someone else had created. The passing rain today signifies that summer is moving further away, while the beloved woman remains absent. Despite the singer's acknowledgement that it would be less miserable if their relationship was just a superficial game, tears continue to flow, and the sunset becomes blurred. The sound of the wavering waves is heard with a vacant gaze.
Within the melancholic wind that blows in the depths of the heart, a passionate presence flickers. The chorus repeats the longing of the singer for the beloved woman, questioning why time continues to flow even though it was a love they had previously discarded. The woman they embraced is crying, and their fervent heart trembles, as tonight, no one loves anyone.
In the fading corner of the city, there lies a mirage dropped by someone. The passing rain today signifies that summer is moving further away, while the beloved woman remains absent. Holding onto the most beautiful memories, the summer love comes to an end. Someday, the singer waits for the beloved woman, smiling with beautiful eyes, like a flower blooming in each season. They know the reason for saying goodbye, as shooting stars disappear. The lonely nights pass by, with the echo of the woman's sighs still lingering by their ear. The chorus repeats once again, expressing the singer's longing for the beloved woman and questioning why time continues to flow even though it was a love they had previously discarded. The woman they embraced is crying, and their fervent heart trembles, as tonight, no one loves anyone. The song concludes with the phrase "You know I want you to remember."
