Their sound evolved with time, and when Harushige Maruyama joined the band (now a three-piece) they released their first major label mini album,『若者たち』(Wakamonotachi, "Young People"). From their own admission, the album's sound owed much to the Japanese guitar group Flipper's Guitar, of which they were big fans. Their sound was also reminiscent of the folk music revolution, exemplified in the music of late 60s Japanese group (Happy End). Sunny Day Service has gained considerable recognition for their acoustic work from this album.
Continuing their success and releasing a number of albums and singles, at the end of their Love Album Tour in 2000, Sunny Day Service announced they would disband. Since disbanding, a best of and b-side compilations have been released, while Keiichi Sokabe has gone on to a successful solo career.
Lyrics

The song "虹の午後に" by サニーデイ・サービス is a nostalgic and reflective song that talks about the memories and feelings associated with a rainbow afternoon. The first verse talks about how the rainbow afternoon calls to the singer, with the surprise of the colorful scarf spreading out and the rainbow appearing and disappearing. The second verse talks about how the scent of the city calls to the singer, who feels like their soul is being dyed in seven colors. The memories of the rainbow afternoon are compared to waves that come and go, and the singer reflects on how they used to be like a bird of nature. The final verse talks about how even though this afternoon may seem boring and melancholic, no one can change the singer's heart anymore.
The song seems to convey the idea that even though things change and memories fade away, there are certain moments that leave a deep impression and stay with us even after many years. The rainbow afternoon represents such a moment that is associated with feelings of wonder and beauty, and even though it may only last for a short while, it has a lasting impact on the singer.
