Ever since formation, the band’s musical style has been a simple, straight-forward variant of punk rock, often featuring whimsical lyrics written by either Kōmoto or Mashima. To emphasize their uncomplicated sound (and perhaps to emulate recordings from the 1960s), several of their more recent works have been released in the single-channel mono sound format. Examples of this include the MONDO ROCCIA album from 2009 and the オートバイと皮ジャンパーとカレー (Ōtobai to Kawa Jumper to Curry) single which went on sale in September, 2010.
Members:
Kōmoto Hiroto (甲本ヒロト) – Vocal
Mashima Masatoshi (真島昌利) – Guitar
Kobayashi Masaru (小林勝) – Bass
Kirita Katsuji (桐田勝治) – Drums
While founders Kōmoto and Masatoshi are the most prominent bandmembers, bassist Kobayashi has played in the bands SADS and nil, while Kirita is known to many as Gargoyle’s drummer.

まーまーま
ザ・クロマニヨンズ Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The lyrics to "まーまーま” by ザ・クロマニヨンズ describe a scene at night where the singer trips and falls on a memory-filled irrigation ditch. They notice that eels are sleeping inside the ditch while they listen to the sound of the passing stars and watch the moon phase. The singer is damp from the night dew and says "maamaamaa" while commenting on how bright it is. They then move on to talking about how a 100-watt light bulb is too bright, but a 30-watt bulb provides the perfect amount of light.
The song seems to be about finding beauty in unexpected places, as the singer trips and falls on the ditch and discovers the sleeping eels. The passing stars and moon phases can also be seen as a metaphor for the fleeting nature of life and the importance of cherishing moments. The "maamaamaa" could represent the singer's attempt at finding some kind of comfort or solace in the strange situation they find themselves in. The lyric regarding the brightness of light bulbs could be interpreted as a commentary on how sometimes less is more, and it's important to find the right balance in life.
