Shooting Star
Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Oh no!
Oh no!
Oh no!
The song "SHOOTING STAR" by ステレオポニー (Stereopony) is an emotional ballad about the singer's longing to be with their loved one. The song opens with the singer recalling how they used to gaze at the stars, but not for the sake of making a wish. The singer then wonders why they are moved to tears at the thought of their beloved. The chorus describes how the singer wants to express their love to their partner with a Love Song that they will carry in their backpack, and how they feel unable to contain the emotions bubbling up in their chest. They decide to go to their love, and the bridge describes how they will soar through space, encountering a shooting star on the way, until they can finally dive into their beloved's heart.
The song's lyrics evoke a sense of longing and determination, the idea that the singer will stop at nothing to reach their love. It's interesting to note that the song's title and chorus use the English words "shooting star", a popular term in Japan for meteor showers. The song's theme of love and the universe is a common one in Japanese media, with anime series such as "Your Lie in April" and "Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day" exploring similar themes. "SHOOTING STAR" was also used as the ending theme for the anime series "Tegami Bachi: Letter Bee", further cementing its connection to the genre.
