The lyrics to プリンセス・プリンセス's song "19 GROWING UP -ode to my buddy-" describes the journey of growing up, the adventures that come with it and the strong bond of friendship between two girls. The song begins with the girl reminiscing a certain memory of her and her friend, where they walk through a parking lot wearing shoes that were given by the friend, and ignoring the rain and dirt to attend a live event. The girl brags about how she would never show tears and how she treasured that moment more than any lost love. The chorus talks about how growing up alone is confusing and how the ticking of a borrowed watch would keep them company. The two girls would always use the password "a sharp way" for their daring pirate-like plans. The girl remembers the adventures they had, the stolen map of a treasure island, and the face of her friend in the polaroid picture that she waves at.
The second verse talks about them stealing secrets from another guy and creating a slightly dangerous plan while still keeping it close to their hearts. The chorus reunites the bond between the two friends, each with their own treasure island to explore, and how their reality has evolved with each island they have viewed. The bridge conveys the message that growing up can sometimes make us forget the journey we have taken with friends and to always remember and cherish the moments that have shaped us into who we are today. The song ends with the chorus, reminding the listeners to never forget that they are still growing up.
