Prisoner of Love
ペリー・コモ [feat. Russ Case & His Orchestra & Chorus] Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Too weak to break the chains that bind me
I need no shackles to remind me
I'm just a prisoner of love
For one command I stand and wait now
From one who's master of my fate now
I can't escape for it's too late nowI'm just a prisoner of love
What's the good of my caring
If someone is sharing those arms with me?
Although she has another
I can't have another, for I'm not free
She's in my dreams, awake or sleeping
Upon my knees to her I'm creeping
My very life is in her keeping
I'm just a prisoner of love
What's the good of my caring
If someone is sharing those arms with me?
Although she has another
I can't have another, for I'm not free
She's in my dreams, awake or sleeping
Upon my knees to her I'm creeping
My very life is in her keeping
I'm just a prisoner of love
In ペリー・コモ [feat. Russ Case & His Orchestra & Chorus]'s song Prisoner of Love, the singer confesses his inability to let go of a relationship that has left him feeling powerless and captive. He describes himself as being alone night after night, and too weak to break the emotional chains that bind him. Despite not being bound physically to his lover, his emotional attachment is so strong that he sees himself as a prisoner, unable to escape the hold she has over him. The singer is consumed by his love and respect for his partner, acknowledging his self-imposed subservience and his dependency on her. He cannot break free, leaving him feeling trapped in his own emotions.
The lyrics explore a common plight many face in relationships where love is unrequited. The singer acknowledges that someone else is sharing his lover’s arms, but he remains unable to let go of the connection that he feels. The song’s title, Prisoner of Love, perfectly encapsulates this struggle, where an individual is constrained and held captive by love. The singer's focus is entirely on his desire to be with his lover, whose arms he desperately seeks. The final verse, with the repeated lines "She's in my dreams, awake or sleeping / Upon my knees to her I'm creeping / My very life is in her keeping / I'm just a prisoner of love," reaffirms the singer's feeling of helplessness, indicating that he is prepared to make any sacrifice to maintain even a small measure of love from his partner.

This is the song that my dad used to sing when he would come stumbling drunk into the house. We knew he was plastered when he was singing this. Dad also had a great voice. God bless his heart. I miss him every day.
