Ueto's breakthrough came when she was cast as a high school student suffering from gender identity disorder (GID), in the sixth season of the long-running TBS drama 3-nen B-gumi Kinpachi-sensei. Her critically acclaimed performance led to several leading roles and endorsements, eventually establishing her as one of Japan's most recognizable faces. As one of Japan's most ubiquitous celebrities, Ueto constantly appears on billboards, shop windows and train adverts, and has held the annual title of CM Queen five times since 2004.
She has also ventured onto the big screen, in the lead role in Ryuhei Kitamura's blockbuster Azumi (2003), which earned her a nomination for a Japan Academy Award for Best Actress, its sequel, Azumi 2: Death or Love (2005), and Thermae Romae (2012).
Mermaid
Lyrics

Mermaid
Revolution
Mermaid
Halation
In the name of dream
Mermaid... In the name of dream
The lyrics to 上戸彩's song "Mermaid" seem to be about a young girl, possibly a teenager, who is on the cusp of growing up and leaving behind her childhood. She is fragile like glass, and this is her last summer in a corner (or hiding) - maybe this means she feels trapped or confined in some way. She wants something different than what she has always known, and so she imagines dreams in the dry sky. The girl is full of energy and is not afraid of anything. She cannot wait for tomorrow.
The lyrics then talk about a mermaid swimming in the blue summer, not caring if she gets burned or if she follows old maps, because her emotions will take her beyond the earth itself. She believes in a god who would not forbid anything, and the blue sky is laughing. There is something about the freedom of the mermaid that draws the girl in, and she decides to start a summer revolution that begins with the fierce ocean wind.
The girl chooses to run without anyone else, and she laughs like a sunflower. The sea and the sky have their rules, but the girl wants to rebel against them and embrace the freedom that comes with the light. She becomes a mermaid in the name of dreams, taking her own risks and overcoming fears, making her own way in the world.
Overall, the song seems to promote individuality, freedom, and breaking away from the past. It also emphasizes the beauty of dreams and imagination and the importance of having the courage to pursue them.
