He composed the music of the first two Sonic the Hedgehog games for the Sega Mega Drive. Most likely, his most famous and notable piece of work could be the Green Hill Zone from Sonic the Hedgehog, as it lead to remixes and remakes of the song and stage in the games Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, Sonic Battle, and Sonic Advance 3. The Final Zone is also regarded as one of the most memorable boss fight songs from the Sega system.

My first game ever was Sonic 2 summer of 1994 too, played this before Sonic 1 because I remember it came with my Genesis... back then it was expensive, about $300 if I remember correctly. Sega Saturn was pretty expensive too, never had one always had to rent it :P

I remember being amazed by this back in the day. Not even just the music. After playing Sonic 1 repeatedly, and then starting this for the first time it really felt like going from standard def to HD. It was so much brighter and more vivid. Sonic looked shinier and had more crisp animations. And the music just fit flawlessly and put it all together. It might not seem like a big deal right now, but in the early 90's it was next level stuff.

There's some sort of inexplicable, mythical quality to Emerald Hill Zone (and Sonic 2 in general). I know my opinion is partially nostalgia fueled, but there's just something about that combination of graphics and music. I can cede that Mario (well, 3 and World, specifically) may offer more to keep you busy, but Sonic is 2nd to none in terms of atmosphere (not saying that the world of Mario isn't great either, though). The "fill in the blanks" mythos of the series might play a large part in it. I think that's what made games of that era so fun to play. I mean, you still have a bit of that now, but you're moreso given everything on a silver platter ( obviously I don't mean all games ). Games from the 16-bit era and some of the 32-bit era managed to find that perfect balance of providing the framework of a world and story and letting you pick up from there.

I was born in '99 but I still had a Genesis as a little kid and my favourite game was Sonic The Hedgehog 2. Fuck the PS2 that ruined all of my friends' childhood. Now they all play CoD, break their keyboards out of rage and swear on the microphones while I enjoy finding retro games and trying to beat the levels without taking damage.

This music is my childhood. Sonic 2 was my very first video game, and even though I sucked at it, I played it a lot. I had to restart a lot too so I kept hearing this theme. I didn't mind, because this game awakened my gamer soul at a very early age. Now video games are a part of my life, Sonic became old and clunky, yes, but his nostalgia power will never falter. And my gamer soul will never die before I do. I really hope other people can feel that way because of their first game(s).

This was one of the first video games I ever owned. I remember playing it as a kid back in the 90s. Every time I hear this music it sends chills up my spine. I'm happy to say that I still have the game and, to this day, I still play it.

Well some Sonic games had better music. Sonic 1-3 on the Genesis, sonic adventure 1 and 2 and sonic heroes had great music. Sonic generations, Colors, and a lot of the newer Sonic games have garbage music compared to Mario. Mario have Mario galaxy, Super mario 64, SMB 1-3, and more recently Super Mario 3d World. I love that soundtrack.

This was my very first video game. My parents separated when I was five, and my mother won custody over me. I was only able to visit my father on the weekends. On the third weekend, he had a surprise for me. He had bought the Sega Genesis that came with Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and Mortal Kombat 3. I played Sonic for hours, and hours with my father. I love him. ;)

I knows Sonic and nostalgia goes hand to hand, but man, this song specifically reachs some deep and hazy memories in me, from when I was very little. The memories are so distant that I don't exactly remember then, it's just a special and weird feeling.

I don't know, I'm just in awe about the power of memories and the past, how a song that you heard when you were almost a baby has such a meaningful impact in you, how a part inside in me craves to go back to that time when I listen to It.

This is the game that made me love video games. At the age of 7 i was a rather lonely child, so i had to play all alone, until one day a classmate that lived close by where I was playing football (Soccer) by myself joined me, later on he invited me to his place and there he booted up Sonic 2 and I heard this song, He was my Best friend for the next 10 years and made me able to tolerate Grade school, but sadly we drifted apart when we entered collage, But I always have fond memories this song.

This song is so nostalgic, I grew up playing the original iPod versions of Sonic 1 and 2. I sucked at both and never made it past Marble Zone or Chemical Plant, but I remember playing Emerald Hill so much. Green Hill is great but Emerald Hill was just so vibrant and colourful and this song is a masterpiece! I also loved Chemical Plant but always preferred Emerald Hill.
