When I first played this mission years ago, I made it through first try.
So when I heard people saying that this mission was difficult, I laughed. I thought, "How could you have so much trouble with it? Little old 5th grader me easily beat it."
With that thought in mind, when I beat the game again later(with Powder Keg) and replayed this mission to get the Su-27, get enough exp for the Bombcat, and destroy the hangar for the Falken , I thought it would be a walk in the park.

I never unlocked the Su-27 in that save, or the Falken, or got the Bombcat. Or recovered my lost pride. To this day, that save still glares at me.

Idk why but it amuses me that archer jumps is part of this. He starts out this shy scared nugget who has little faith in anything but his ability to not crash and over the missions grows a backbone gaining the confidence to banter with chopper

I would recommending flying slow and try to be parallel with the ground and firing when nagase said 3 so by the travel time I got closer. Not saying it’s by any means foolproof but it helped.

Chopper, best wingman. Losing him was surprisingly intense, and that they stuck with it, and even replaced him with a cool dude, but in a slot that even he knows he'll never truly be able to replace, and doesn't try to. That space is always there, and by getting Snow you actually end up with a 5 man squad if that makes sense, just with a man down. It's powerful stuff, and few games ever gave me that feeling. On that last mission, I was like, man, Chopper would have fucking loved this... and I somehow have to think the only reason I can feel that, is because he's actually there somehow.

The best plane to take out 8492 (for me at least) is the MiG-21-93. It's rather maneuverable, especially at low speeds. Took them out in Ace with that plane in a few minutes. What do you use by the way?

Ah, the canyon. I didn't really have any trouble with them there, either. I beat them there with the Bombcat. Next time I pick it up I'm going to try Expert. I'll see how it goes then. I clearly see your point, though. I mean, I was only shot down three times in 4 and 5 combined. I had more trouble with crashing into the ocean because I thought it was the sky on the night missions.

You have to do it on at least hard for it to be worth bragging. The only reason you struggle against Ofnir when you encounter them alone on normal or easier is because you're restricted to flying within the canyon.

This mission's Falken Hangar is easier than most of them, since it's somewhat near the factory and it had a single SAM guarding it.

It’s also in Powder Keg, left of the map in the opening section, fly down the river and it should appear on radar. If you already get it in powder keg. The hanger here becomes the SU27 hanger

The Arkbird's laser is easy to avoid. Just fly above it. The laser is mounted on the bottom so it can't fire upwards.

Ofnir-Grabacr was insanely powerful? I was in the Super Tomcat, two and a half volleys from the XMAA took out all but two of them in the first pass. That's what you get for flying in formation straight at me. I finished off the other two with three minutes to kill before the SOLG showed up. I mean, I was on Normal, but still.

Cool, but pointless. I prefer to use planes that I can actually make good use of the secondary weapon with. If you think about it, the laser can be a bit inconvenient, since you have to line it up perfectly, and stay there. It's like a more powerful machine gun. With the others, you can fire-and-forget most of the time.

As annoying as it is, I think it was only the second-hardest mission in the game. Arkbird II was the worst because of that fucking death star laser it has.

Nah, the award for hardest mission goes to "White Noise". It's bad enough that you have to find Nagase with enemy planes trying to kill you, but once you do, you gotta make sure the Chinook survives (and in its path are both Ground AND Air enemies all too happy to kill it) to its destination. In my first playthrough, I was too busy dodging enemy missiles and this led to the enemy shooting down Sea Goblin; throwing all your previous efforts to search for Nagase out the window.

I hate this level... I kept coming in from too far to the side, and the missile kept going through the ring right before hitting... I just restarted the campaign and prayed to god that I didn't get this one again.
