花はさいても 他国の春は
Even though flowers bloom, the spring in foreign lands is still quite lonely, just like the mountains and the rivers.

どこか淋しい 山や川
There is a sense of loneliness that permeates the mountains and rivers.

旅の役者と 流れる雲は
Travelling actors and drifting clouds both move without any true destination in mind.

風の吹きよで 泣けもする
The force of the wind is so strong that it can make one feel like crying.

「お島さん もう若旦那と呼ぶのはよしてくんな 今の俺らは 檜屋の若旦那でも 千太郎でも ありゃしない 追手の目をくらます十蔵一座の旅役者 見よう見真似の俄か役者が 化けの皮をはがされずに ここまで 逃げおうせたのは お島さん みんなお前さんのおかげだよ」
Older brother Taro tells Oshima to stop calling them young master since they are no longer the young masters of Hiya-ya (Hinokuniya). He says they are tenzo and actors who can get blinded by the pursuit of money. They fled this far because of Oshima’s help.

渡り鳥さえ 一緒に飛べる
Migratory birds can always fly with a friend.

連れがなければ 辛かろに
Without companionship, life would be unbearable.

口でけなして こころでほめて
Silent appreciation of someone is sometimes better than words.

お島千太郎 旅すがた
The appearance of Oshima Chitaro while travelling.

「お島... お前の真心は 誰よりも俺らが一番身にしみている 口には出して云わねえが 心の中じゃ 何時だって 手を合わせて礼を云っているんだ こんなに苦しい思いをしながら どうして俺らにつくしてくれるのかと 不思議に思う時もある だが 故郷へ帰って 檜屋の看板をあげたら その時はお島 旅芸人の足を洗って 俺らの世話女房に...」
Brother Taro tells Oshima that her true feelings are felt by him and his brothers more than anyone else. They thank her in their hearts and often pray for her. Despite the hardships, they wonder why she is so devoted to them. However, if they make it back to their homeland and restore Hiya-ya’s sign, they will have Oshima wash their feet and keep house for them.

人の心と 草鞋の紐は
The ties that bind people's hearts are like the strings of their straw sandals.

解くも結ぶも 胸次第
It’s up to one’s heart whether to untie or tie those strings.

苦労分けあう 旅空夜空
While travelling through the daytime and the night, one shares the toil and burden with his companion.

月も見とれる 夫婦笠
The couple’s hat is so beautiful that even the moon can’t resist looking at it.
