In the song "乱反射" by 倖田來未, the lyrics depict a complicated and painful love relationship. The first verse expresses the singer's feelings of being embraced by a forgotten knitted sweater, symbolizing the memories of their past love. The repetition of "口癖" (catchphrase) that the person they loved used to say, suggests that despite moving on, they still unconsciously mutter those words. The singer feels a mixture of emotions as they are tightly held, experiencing both the pain of holding back tears and the confusion of why they are being embraced. They question why they are still kissing and why the person they love doesn't reciprocate their feelings. The transparent kiss reflects the turmoil in their heart, unable to openly express their love due to an unspoken rule.
The second verse explores the cyclical nature of their relationship. It emphasizes that there is no beginning, only an ending, and every time they meet, they find themselves wrapped in each other's arms once again. They believe in the imperfect shape of their love, an uneven connection that binds them together. If they were to open their eyes in the middle of a kiss, they feel as though they might see the true essence of the person, and they still long to touch and continue to kiss them. However, they express that they cannot love in the past tense, indicating a struggle to fully embrace and move on from their past together.
The chorus repeats the imagery of a transparent kiss reflecting a chaotic heart. The singer questions the unspoken rule that prevents them from declaring their love openly, whether they are treated coldly or kindly. Regardless of the situation, their heart only feels pain. The repetition of the lines signifies the ongoing emotional turmoil they experience.
Overall, the lyrics of "乱反射" portray the complexities and struggles of a love that is held back by unspoken rules and the inability to fully express their feelings. The singer yearns for a deeper connection, yet the love remains entangled in past memories and emotions, causing their heart to ache. It is a portrayal of a love that is mired in confusion, longing, and pain.
