The lyrics of 倖田來未's song 運命 (Unmei) explore themes of longing, inevitability, and the complexities of fate. The song reflects on the passage of time, with the changing seasons representing the ever-lasting nature of time, while the singer's desire to see someone they miss highlights the bittersweetness of their unchangeable fate.
Despite being physically apart, the singer deeply wishes to support and be there for the person they love. The imagery of snow falling from the sky on lonely nights symbolizes the singer's overwhelming emotions and their desire to embrace and cherish their loved one. The lyrics emphasize the importance of not forgetting the time they spent together, as it holds significant meaning.
The song questions the nature of fate, asking if it is a predetermined path that was set at birth. The meeting of two souls can give rise to hope for tomorrow, but it also intertwines dreams and reality, creating a complex dynamic. The singer yearns to fly to their loved one with metaphorical wings, wishing to have a heartfelt conversation until the moment they peacefully fall asleep.
While the singer may have finally found something worth protecting, the irony lies in their proximity to their loved one, yet feeling unable to protect them. The lyrics speak to the struggle of balancing dreams and reality, as well as the challenges of love and fate.
Overall, 運命 (Unmei) delves into the poignant aspects of love, longing, and the enigmatic nature of destiny.
