He is best known for his work for developer Squaresoft (now Square Enix), having composed the scores for their role-playing video games Chrono Trigger (1995), its sequel Chrono Cross (1999), and Xenogears (1998). A self-affirmed minimalist, Mitsuda's influences include jazz, classical, and Asian (Indian and Japanese) ethnic music.
Born in Tokuyama, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan, Mitsuda began studying the piano at the age of five. By chance, he noticed a job advertisement for sound production for Squaresoft in an issue of Famitsu; despite a self-described "disastrous" interview with Squaresoft head composer 植松伸夫, in which he admitted he considered the job only a stepping stone to further his career and that he had never played Square's most famous games, such as Final Fantasy, executives were sufficiently impressed with his demo that he was hired as sound staff in 1992.
The release of Chrono Cross marked the beginning of his career as a freelance artist, which he continues to be, releasing both video game soundtracks and other original works under his own label, Procyon Studio. Other famous works of Mitsuda's include Mario Party, the Shadow Hearts series, and Xenosaga, a spiritual successor to Xenogears.

This track plays as the battle music against Grahf and the Executioner in Solaris, as well as in the immediately prior cutscene.
This track is also the area music for the Soylent system in Solaris. In addition, it also plays during the following cutscenes:
- Bart asks Sigurd and Citan questions about Solaris in Nisan.
- Fei loses control when fighting the Dora.
- Wiseman appears in front of Fei when tuning Weltall in Nortune.
- Wiseman provides exposition on Fei's father after fighting him.
- Fei and Citan prepare to jump on the freight train in Nortune. (The music continues as the area theme until they jump on the train.)
- Bishop Stone takes Emeralda from the party in Zeboim.
- Etrenank appears in the sky after the destruction of the third Gate.
- Miang explains the goal of Deus after taking over Elly's body.

Very memorable, creepy track, that gets under your skin.
@TheRebornExpert
Xenogears can get really dark when it wants to. And the moments when this track plays proves it.
@The_General_Zubas
That is the beauty of this game. It cares about the Shadows of life as well.
@brandonstinson4988
I've heard. Haven't played it but what's going on in this scene that makes it so dark.
@ke8mattj
The scene that makes this memorable to me is the battle vs Grahf and Executioner. It's what plays on my mind when I hear this song.
@carlosvonsexron9553
Man, the music in this game is sooooo good.
@boredgoddesstori6635
I remember this Track playing when fighting Grahf towards the end of Disc 1.
Also the Soylent Factory. Do I need to say more?
