北原謙二さんの最晩年に、川口市の武蔵野健康ランドで偶然ですが歌声を聴いたことがあります。奥様が司会をなさって北原謙二さんが数々の往年のヒット曲をお歌いになりました。ご承知のように脳出血の後遺症で切なくなるようなたどたどしい歌声でしたが、北原謙二さんは大広間を埋めた大勢のファンの方のために精一杯歌われました。「ふるさとのはなしをしよう」の最中にどなたかが感極まって号泣されたのです。それを耳にされた北原謙二さんも泣き声に変わりました。私も貰い泣きしました。その時です。大広間を埋めた大勢の人々が「ふるさとのはなしをしよう」の大合唱を始めたのです。私も歌詞はよく知らなかったのですが合唱に加わりました。北原謙二さんがお亡くなりになったのはそれから数年後のことでした。

久しぶりに懐かしい歌を聴いていたところ北原謙二さんの、ふるさとのはなしをしよう を聴いて、当時の彼の姿が目に浮かびます。亡くなったことは知りませんでした、。自分も、青春の思いでとして口にして行と毎日口ずさんでいます。87歳のじいちゃん。
