Nocturne
Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of NOCTURNE describe a rainy night where the singer feels restless and is unable to sleep. Despite the rain, she goes out to dance barefoot by the water's edge. She longs to be with someone she will someday meet, and the prospect of that person's arrival makes her heart race. As the night deepens, the singer muses about the symbolism of fruit growing from a tree reaching for the sky, and imagines that this represents the joy one feels when they awaken from a long sleep, perhaps alluding to the idea that the singer has been waiting for this person for a long time. The closing lines suggest that this person may finally be reaching out to awaken her from her long sleep.

Overall the lyrics convey a sense of longing and anticipation, with a hint of melancholy. The falling rain and misty atmosphere evoke a mood of introspection and dreaminess, as if the singer is lost in thought and seeing the world through a veil of emotion. The image of bare feet dancing in the rain suggests a willingness to take risks and embrace the moment, despite the uncertainty of what the future holds.
