In 1985, Sakamoto was killed in the crash of Japan Airlines Flight 123. Before the doomed aircraft hit the ground, he managed to write a farewell note to his wife Yukiko Kashiwagi. Married in 1971, they had two daughters, Hanako and Maiko.

Muchas de sus canciones las sé y conozco, esta, más Sukiyaki, Soshite omoide (la cual no está publicada en YouTube hace varios años) Ashita ga aru sa, y otras dos que no recuerdo. MIAGETE GORAN YORU NO HOSHI WO ¡ es preciosa! Tuve un tío japonés de Yamaha, Jisaburo Matsuda, y es por ello mi afición a la música japonesa, pero así suave como todas las baladas.
