Died: November 9. 2023 (aged 73)

Blood Type: A
Ohashi got her start in music when she joined a band while she was at Hokkaido University.
Inspired by such artists like Sergio Mendes & Brazil '66 and Janice Joplin, Ohashi hoped to add soulful singing to her music. She later became a DJ at a local radio station before having a part-time job at the Yamada Headquarters in Tokyo.
There, she auditioned for a chance to release music and won a record deal.
In 1974, Ohashi made her debut with the album Feeling Now and the single "Kagi wa Kaeshite". Her second album, Paper Moon, helped to gain Ohashi some popularity. But it wasn't till 1977 with the single "Simple Love" that Ohashi gained a smash hit. Throughout the late 70s and 80s, a couple of her singles also became big hits.

The lyrics of 大橋純子's song ペイパー・ムーン depict a sense of longing, melancholy, and finding solace in moments of fleeting happiness. In the opening lines, the singer expresses a desire to forget the hardships of life and seek comfort in the arms of a loved one. The reference to the Paper Moon, a pub in the backstreets, evokes a sense of escapism and temporary respite from the realities of everyday life. The notion that the Paper Moon is fitting for discussions of parting ways suggests a bittersweet atmosphere where connections are made and broken under the paper-thin facade of the night.
The lyrics convey a resigned acceptance of the mismatched fate between the singer and their lover, symbolized by the misalignment of the stars. Despite this, there is a glimmer of hope expressed in the idea of occasionally meeting at the Paper Moon during moments of unbearable longing. The Paper Moon is portrayed as a place where the lonely find solace, reflecting a theme of seeking companionship and understanding in a world of pretense and superficiality.
The reference to the city as a place filled with deception and falsehoods contrasts with the potential for genuine love to shine through like a silver moon. The singer muses on the transient nature of life, likening it to a piece of paper fluttering in the wind, yet emphasizes the importance of cherishing moments of laughter and tears. The mention of meeting at the Paper Moon on sleepless nights highlights the desire for fleeting connections and emotional release in the quiet hours when loneliness weighs heavy.
Overall, the song's lyrics capture a wistful yearning for connection, understanding, and fleeting moments of happiness amidst the struggles and uncertainties of life. The Paper Moon symbolizes a sanctuary where hearts can find temporary solace, where loneliness can be momentarily forgotten, and where hope for a genuine connection lingers in the midst of transient encounters. Through the imagery of the Paper Moon and the themes of love, loss, and acceptance, the song evokes a sense of nostalgia and longing for moments of connection in a world that often feels insincere and fleeting.
