作詞の山上は瀬戸内海の島は訪れたことはないが、瀬戸内海は仕事で四国へ行く途中、水中翼船で何度も通ったことがあり、広島県尾道から四国に向かう水中翼船から見た段々畑と、美しい夕焼けの島々の景色が印象的で、それを思い浮かべ作詞をしたと話している

演歌でもなくポップスでもなく
その間にあるような歌謡曲こそ
日本の優しい世界と風土に合っていると思う。歌詞も誰が聞いても分かりやすく、
韻とか無駄に踏まずに英語が途中で挟み込まれる事もない。英語の単語など本来いらんし。
メロディも穏やかでありながら、
軽くもない。長くもないし短くもない。
それより歌声と歌詞に重きを置いてる感じもいい。

この曲は、私が4歳の頃、ピアノを習っていた先生が結婚で辞められることになったときに、先生の伴奏で瀬戸の花嫁を歌ったら、先生が号泣されたのを思い出しました。
