Hollywood
小红莓合唱团THE CRANBERRIES Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've got a picture in my head
In my head
It's me and you we are in bed
We are in bed

You've always been there when I called
When I called
You've always been there most of all, all, all, all

[Chorus]
This is not Hollywood
Like I understood
Is not Hollywood
Like, like, like
Get away, get away,
Is there anybody there?
Get away, get away,
Is there anybody there?
Get away, get away, get away, away

I've got a picture in my room
In my room
I will return there I presume
It will be soon
The greatest irony of all
Should do all
It's not so glamorous at all, all, all

[Chorus]

Overall Meaning

The song "Hollywood" by The Cranberries is a melancholic reflection on the glamorous and superficial image of Hollywood portrayed in the media. The singer seems to be daydreaming about being with someone in a bed, which could be a symbol of closeness and intimacy beyond the public eye of Hollywood. The person she is singing about is always there for her when she calls, but the chorus suggests a feeling of isolation and disconnection from the fake world of Hollywood, emphasizing that it is not as great as it is often portrayed to be.

The line "get away, get away, is there anybody there?" could reflect the singer's desire to escape from the artificiality of Hollywood and find genuine connection in the real world. She has a picture in her room and plans to return soon, but the greatest irony is that the reality of Hollywood is not glamorous or desirable at all. The song's repetition of the phrase "this is not Hollywood" reinforces the message that the singer is disillusioned with the idealized version of Hollywood and seeks something more authentic.

Because the legends will never die. Probably my favourite Cranberries song.

mi adolescencia la viví escuchando su voz y cada éxito que salía me identifique mucho en los 90s con ellos hoy ya un poco grande me llena de nostalgia y a la vez agradecido por haber vivido la mejor época the CRANBERRIES

Qué envidia.

KINDNESS FIRST

Her singing style is so distinctive- influenced by keening (a 14 century old traditional type of singing done in Ireland when mourning a death). Also yodeling and her strong Limerick accent. She was originally hired just as a singer for the band but ended up writing their songs.

Somehow the lyrics just took on a whole new meaning. I can't express my sadness at the loss. You were so beautiful inside and out Dolores and we will miss you so much. RIP.
