Turn it up a bit please

My baby
Baby does
My baby does, me good
My baby does
My baby does me
My baby does me good

My lady
Understands
Understands me right

She understands me
She understands me
Understands me right
Mmmmmmm

My baby cares
She really cares
She knows what's really right for me
Does me good then she hurts me so
She winds me up then lets me go
Turns me on and then tells me no
She's just a pussy cat

My baby loves me
My baby loves me (ooh)
My baby cuffs me (ooh)
One day she'll tells me that she cares
Another day she tells me she don't love me
She really really does me
Ooh, people do you believe this ?, do you ?
Oo ooh, ah

Ooh ooh ooh
Ooh she really really really really really really aah, does me, hey

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "My Baby Does Me Good" by Shonen Knife express the mixed emotions of a person in a relationship with their significant other. The song begins by the singer requesting to turn the music up, after which she declares that her baby does her good. The term "baby" can signify a lover or a partner, and the phrase "my baby does me good" suggests that they bring positivity into the singer's life. Later, the singer mentions that her lady understands her right, indicating that they share a deep connection.

However, as the song progresses, it reveals that the relationship is not perfect. The singer mentions that her baby hurts her, winds her up, and turns her on, only to say no. Despite the mixed signals, the singer adds that her baby loves her, but also cuffs her. The final line of the song repeats the phrase "she really really does me" several times, possibly indicating that the singer is emotionally conflicted about the relationship.

Overall, the lyrics of "My Baby Does Me Good" convey the complex emotions that come with being in a relationship. While the singer acknowledges that her baby brings positivity into her life, she also recognizes that the relationship has its difficulties.

This sums up the spirit of Shonen Knife perfectly. With all due love and respect to Ritsuko, Etsuko, Emi, Risa and others who came after, SK will always be Naoko, Atsuko and Rock Goddess Michie Nakatani to me! Wish someone had a live video of this song, or Insect Collector; two of my absolute favorites among a catalogue of GREAT music!

@sderoski1

I got this album on cassette Gasatanka records. I wrote to Shonen Knife and they wrote back. Naoko and Shonen Knife are some of my favorite people on the planet. Thanks for the memories!

@Kratonos

Just bought the album....Its amazing.

@djgambitron

this is another track that's also on their Gasatanka Giant CD. my favorites from that one are Cycling is Fun & Chinese song which have already been posted from other CDs and THE song that got me into SK to begin with was Little Tree on Concrete Animals. if you're looking for a fun sounding non-SK J-Pop tune, look out for the anime preview song for Dragon Half that i'll be posting in my channel soon. it's even MORE cutesy than SK if that's even possible. LOL

@dnzg66

All I can say is that Shonen Knife fucking rocks.

@matchboxdisaster

”Genius is hidden inside retardation (or developmental disability)" was a slogan for Japan's post 60's cultural ethos. A lot of people from this generation tried to act like weirdo in order to be perceived as talented human. And the Masses got tired of them during the 80's and they finally gave them an ultimatum saying "grow the fuck up or suicide". To me Naoko Yamano is a symbolic figure that remained underground in the 80's to resist against the social pressure and to maintain the status of "retarded genius".

@Shoknifeman

@WilliamSplash hehe Truly the greatest chorus in the history of music! :)
