The lyrics of 川中美幸's song 郡上夢うた revolve around a woman's longing and yearning for her lover, who is away from her during the festival of 郡上おどりの盂蘭盆会. The first verse describes how even though they are separated by a single sliding door, she can still hear the sound of his breathing. The festival is referenced in the lyrics as she feels restless due to the excitement of the festival, yet she is unable to share it with her loved one. She is left feeling hot and bothered, unable to sleep and tossing and turning in bed.
In the second verse, the woman is seen packing up to leave while her lover is still sleeping. She does not want to see him because it would make it difficult for her to say goodbye. She expresses her sorrow and weeps in her temporary accommodation. She waits for this festival every year, and it leaves her desolate to part from her lover. She hopes that they could live together and longingly sighs at the thought.
Overall, the song portrays a poignant love story where the lovers are separated by circumstances, but their love endures. The song's lyrics express the sorrow of being away from loved ones during the festival, the intense yearning that follows, and the hope that someday they will be reunited.
