Kimura has appeared in many extremely successful television dramas. He has been said to be the "sexiest guy in Japan".

He married Shizuka Kudo (工藤静香), a Japanese singer and J-Pop idol, in 2000. They have two daughters: Kokomi (2001) and Mitsuki (2003).
