Her singing career as the unrivaled "Dance Queen" began in May 1987 with the release of her first album, New Season. She differed from many other female Idol Singers in Japan in that she wrote her own lyrics and some music for her albums. She also played drums on most of the tracks, as well as piano, clarinet, and other instruments. Her advertising jingles were hits into the mid 1990s in television commercials for such goods as chocolate and gin. She has also made numerous appearances on Japanese game and talent shows and is still a household name. In twelve years after her debut she released seventeen albums and created a cult following of otaku fanboys.
Some say that she displaced Yoko Oginome as the reigning "Dance Queen" of the mid to late 1980's. Yoko's singing career faded as Chisato's rose and endured far longer.

Memories
Memories
Memories
Memories
Memories
Memories
Memories
Memories
The lyrics above are from the chorus of the song "Memories" by Chisato Moritaka. The song starts with a description of a lonely night, and how the singer sometimes finds herself wanting to revisit memories from the past. She gently opens an album and turns the pages to remind herself of the times when she and her friends were laughing and having fun. The chorus then kicks in with the message that everyone has experienced sad nights, and that memories of those times might bring tears now, but they will eventually become warm memories.
The second verse talks about a graduation ceremony, where the singer took a photo with someone she loved. Although they are no longer together, she imagines that the person is still smiling at her. The final repetition of the chorus emphasizes that even though people can never forget the things that they loved or the tears they shed, they can find comfort in the fact that bad memories will turn into good ones with time.
The song has a nostalgic quality that inspires listeners to reminisce about their own pasts. Interestingly, while the chorus talks about everyone experiencing sad nights and heartbreak, the specific memories mentioned in the song are relatively happy - laughing with friends, being in love. Perhaps this is a reminder that even in the midst of sadness, there are still moments of joy to hold onto.
