Although he contributed to many Japanese movies, TV dramas, musical plays, games, anime and solo albums from other Japanese artists throughout his career, most of his works involved products that have never been released outside of Japan and thus didn't reach a wide audience overseas.
Outside of Japan he's mostly known for having composed the soundtrack to the TV anime Kanon.

i love both the 2006 and 2002 version, but 2006 was my personal favorite. I like how the 2002 had that moment in the end that wasn't in 2006, and also the OVA. I won't say any more for the ones who haven't seen it.... I LOVE KANON <3 T_T

Kanon, the VN and anime (especially the VN) will be forever in my heart and mind. It was the first VN that made me cry. It was 6 in the morining, and I finished Ayu's route, and by GOD, I cried my eyes off. The 2002 anime was so so, but the last 2 episode was done way better than 2006 KyoAni's version. Although story and animation wise, KyoAni is superb, especially Makoto's route was done beautiful in 2006. This opening was so good that became my favoite song.

Kanon will forever be in my heart as well. It was through Kanon that I become introduced to otaku subculture. The 2006 anime adaptation got me hooked on anime, and the visual novel introduced me to the VN medium. It is pretty safe to say I would not be as involved with anime and VNs if it were not for Kanon. Just curious, did you watch the anime first and then read the VN, or the other way around?

I do not get why people hate the 2002 so very much. Sure the animation is outdated but come on, they were very dedicated to the visual novel. I hate when people compare anime by its animation and artwork style. It is unique and gives a childish look but holds its adult-part intact. This anime was beautifully written (except some minor issues) but that is intended for you to go and check out the visual novel possibly. I can see why this anime was what brought the fame and legendary Clannad.

I think they both bring different vibes to the table. The 2002 version feels much more dreamlike and reminds me of Haibane Renmai. Very much feels like a strange pocket dimension for the main characters, as opposed to the living, breathing interconnected city from the 2006 version. Plus the opening sequence and first few seconds of the 2006 version will spoil most of the story if you haven't seen anything from the franchise before. Both are great imo.

On an unrelated note. While part of me is glad with the Ayu end, I honestly think a better ending would be him grieving and moving on to Nayuki. But that's just me. Ayu is still adorable regardless, and deserves headpats and taiyuki.

I prefer the music in 2002 a lot more, and I feel it is truer to the VN. 2006 does have very nice art though.

Clannad will always be my favorite but songs like this and last regrets kanon '06 are so much more memorable song wise so heartwarming makes me rethink life every time and actually saved my friends life. He was in shock over his brothers car crash related death, he sat in his room for 3 days. makes me sad just talking about it but this song reminded him of the goods in life btw that friend ..... was me. I'm still here today and this song lets me reminisce. Forever Kanon

屈指の名曲よ。少なくとも原典のラストリグレッツよりこっちのほうがKanonの印象が強い。

なおTVアニメ本編は、ヒロイン'sの各エピソードを1クールに詰め込んで、やたら顎作画だったりやたら2話連続放送だったりと
なかなかの踏んだり蹴ったりな模様。

っていうか東映アニメーションがエロゲ原作アニメ制作とか後にも先にもコレだけじゃね？いや分からんけど…

絵は京アニ版の方がいいが、曲とストーリーはこっちの方が好き。
京アニ版は原作に忠実だけど、その結果として全ヒロインと恋仲になって祐一が５股してるみたいになってるんだよね。
こっちは各ヒロインを救うのは各ヒロインと親しい周りの人で、名雪の失恋とかもしっかり書かれてて、ストーリーはいい。
ただ、絵が残念。
