Rehab
蕾哈娜(Rihanna) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

[Verse 1:]
Baby, baby
When we first met
I never felt something so strong
You were like my lover
And my best friend
All wrapped into one
With a ribbon on it
And all of a sudden
You went, left
I didn't know how to follow
It's like a shot
That spun me around
And now my heart's dead
I feel so empty and hollow

[Pre Chorus:]
And I'll never give myself to another
The way I gave it to you
Don't even recognize
The ways you hurt me
Do you?
It's gonna take a miracle to bring me back
And you're the one to blame

[Chorus:]
And now I feel like, oh
You're the reason
Why I'm thinking
I don't wanna smoke on
These cigarettes no more
I guess that's what I get
For wishful thinking
I should've never let you enter my door
Next time you wanna go on and leave
I should just let you go on and do it
Cause now I'm using like I bleed

It's like I checked into rehab and
Baby, you're my disease
It's like I checked into rehab and
Baby, you're my disease

I gotta check into rehab
'Cause baby you're my disease
I gotta check into rehab
'Cause baby you're my disease

[Verse 2:]
Damn,
Ain't it crazy when you're love swept?
You'll do anything for the one you love
'Cause anytime that you needed me
I'd be there
It's like you were my favorite drug
The only problem is
That you was using me
In a different way that I was using you
But now that I know, it's not meant to be
You gotta go, I gotta win myself off of you

[Pre Chorus:]
And I'll never give myself to another
The way I gave it to you
Don't even recognize
The ways you hurt me
Do you?
It's gonna take a miracle to bring me back
And you're the one to blame

[Chorus:]
And now I feel like, oh
You're the reason
Why I'm thinking
I don't wanna smoke on
These cigarettes no more
I guess that's what I get
For wishful thinking
I should've never let you enter my door
Next time you wanna go on and leave
I should just let you go on and do it
Cause now I'm using like I bleed

It's like I checked into rehab and
Baby, you're my disease
It's like I checked into rehab and
Baby, you're my disease

I gotta check into rehab
'Cause baby you're my disease
I gotta check into rehab
'Cause baby you're my disease

[Bridge: Justin Timberlake]
Now ladies, gimme that
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, now gimme that
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh

Now ladies, gimme that
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, now gimme that
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, Oh, oh, oh

[Pre Chorus:]
Oh
You're the reason
Why I'm thinking
I don't wanna smoke on
These cigarettes no more
I guess that's what I get
For wishful thinking
I should've never let you enter my door
Next time you wanna go on and leave
I should just let you go on and do it
Cause now I'm using like I bleed

It's like I checked into rehab and
Baby, you're my disease
It's like I checked into rehab and
Baby, you're my disease

I gotta check into rehab
'Cause baby you're my disease

I gotta check into rehab
'Cause baby you're my disease

Overall Meaning

In "Rehab," Rihanna sings about a toxic relationship, a lover who was so important to her that she felt like a piece of herself died when they left. She refers to her love addiction as her "disease" and realizes that she has to check herself into rehab to overcome it. In the opening lines, Rihanna describes the initial stages of her relationship with her lover. She found something that felt so strong, and he was both her lover and best friend. However, when he left, she did not know how to deal with it, and it felt like it spun her around even as her heart grew empty and hollow.

In the chorus, she reveals that she's refused to smoke anymore, which is an addiction to cigarettes she equates to the addiction she has to her lover. She regrets letting him into her life and believes that she should have let him go the last time he wanted to leave. She explains that the feeling is equivalent to that of checking herself into rehab. In verse two, she highlights how love can be a hobby and a drug at the same time. When they needed her, she had always been there. Still, by doing so, she had become an addict in a different way than he had. She knows that it's time to stop using one another, and she must break her addiction to him.
