She is famous for her collaboration song with SoulJa, "Koko ni Iru yo", and her answer song "Soba ni Iru ne". In September 2008, the Guinness World Records certified that "Soba ni Iru ne" became the best-selling digital download single in Japan with over two million "full-track" downloads (Chaku Uta Full). However, the record of the Guinness World Records was replaced by Greeeen's song "Kiseki" in June of 2009. Including various forms of digital downloads, it sold over 8.7 million downloads by November 2008. Both of the songs are similar, and both share the same chorus. However, the song "Soba ni Iru ne" proved to be more popular than the song "Koko ni Iru yo", debuting at #3 in its first week on the Oricon charts, and in its second week, reaching #1 on the charts. "Soba ni Iru ne" stayed in the Top 5 ranking for 7 consecutive weeks. It became the highest-selling female single (strictly a duet song) on the Oricon 2008 yearly charts

Baby I Love You

No chocolate covered candy hearts to give away
No first of spring
No song to sing
In fact here's just another ordinary day
No April rain
No flowers bloom
No wedding Saturday within the month of June
Made up of these three words that I must say to you
I just called to say I love you
I just called to say how much I care
I just called to say I love you
And I mean it from the bottom of my heart
No summer's high
No warm July
No harvest moon to light one tender August night
No autumn breeze
No falling leaves
Not even time for birds to fly to southern skies
No Libra sun
No Halloween
No giving thanks to all the Christmas joy you bring
But what it is, though old so new
To fill your heart like no three words could ever do
I just called to say I love you
I just called to say how much I care, I do
I just called to say I love you
And I mean it from the bottom of my heart
I just called to say I love you
I just called to say how much I care, I do
I just called to say I love you
And I mean it from the bottom of my heart, of my heart, of my heart
I just called to say I love you
I just called to say how much I care, I do
I just called to say I love you
And I mean it from the bottom of my heart, of my heart, baby of my heart
The lyrics of 青山テルマ's song "Baby I love you" describe a sentiment that is not dependent on the usual markers of romantic celebration like New Year's Day, Valentine's Day or Weddings. Instead, it is an "ordinary day", which in its mundaneness is stripped of artifice and reveals the purity of feeling. The singer lists a series of what might typically be considered unremarkable days, with no moments of seasonal change or cultural significance, but despite the absence of these expected events, there is still "something true" to celebrate.
The chorus "I just called to say I love you" is a simple declaration that carries profound meaning. It cuts through all the social conventions and expectations around romance and relationships and gets to the heart of the matter. The singer is not trying to impress with grand gestures or expensive gifts, but rather just wanting to express their feelings in the most direct and honest way possible.
This song is a beautiful example of the power of simplicity and sincerity in music. It shows that sometimes the most meaningful expressions of love and emotion do not need to be complicated or flashy, but can be found in the smallest, most honest gestures.
