Forgive my poor English.

*This song is released in 1949, postwar restoration.
*Ginza: one of the most prosperous town in Tokyo
*Kankan-Girl: a coined word by the lyricist of this song, Kajiro Yamamoto.
"Kankan" stands for "angry". Kankan-Girl is a defiant and strong-minded girl.

[lyrics]
Kankan-Girl, how pretty she is.
Wearing a red blouse and sandals.
She seems waiting for someone on the street in Ginza,
looking at a clock often with smile in a fidget.
She is Kankan-Girl in Ginza.

Kankan-Girl is getting caught in the rain,
with neithor an umbrella nor shoes.
"So what? Ginza, this jungle is within my territory.
Any tiger or wolf can't afraid me."
She is Kankan-Girl in Ginza.

Kankan-Girl has been spoken ill.
It makes her feel like protesting.
"Even if I lose my house and get poor,
I will never be taken in by guys."
She is Kankan-Girl in Ginza.

Kankan-Girl drinks CALPICO.
A glass in front of her has two straws.
"You taste first-love, don't you?
Never forget it forever."
Gazing each other, suck the drink and kiss.
She is Kankan-Girl in Ginza.

I wish I knew what the lyrics are in English. I heard this when we were stationed on Guam in'63. The Japanese stations tended to play some pretty old hits. So along with Sakamoto Kyo san I have this lady's voice kicking around in my head for decades. I have love the song since I first heard it. What does it mean? Anyone?

The title means "The Ginza Cancan girls". And the voice belongs to the great actress Hideko Takamine.
