Overall Meaning

In the song Hollywood, Madonna satirically comments on the illusion of success in Hollywood, particularly within the entertainment industry. When I finally reaching age that would enough allowing me to live life full-fledge, one of first thing I do was to find a New Yorker to paint portrait of me, copy some coutures from magazines and just see western theathers. It was unfettering, something contemplating. I don't know how I do it, but most of times I just 'do it myself' as none in-sync with my 'antics'. Her abilities and initiative to collaborate with vast upcoming stylists and artiste are deserving high-tier on my appraisal! Everyone needs inspirations to explore thus delve onto much deeper be it in their workmanship and specially in her crafts, stage showmanship, etc. For me, she really typifies 'modern' bohemian attitude since early on and just keeps on experimenting. That's a gem quality that majority of those on her league lack thereof or simply went missing. Apart of her, I can see Grace Jones, Cher, possibly Lady Gaga, but it wasn't so many. So I like her, positive attitude are rarity

For me it honestly the timing and her choice to switch up her style. I remember that a lot of People companies. I remeber her apologizing and switching back a few months after it was released. Greetings from germany. Came here in 2023 for the very first time. Never ever heard this song or the "American Life" album before. Or even watched this video. The ignition for me was a podcast on the german radio (at "NDR 2") were Mr. Peter Urban and his mate talked about the life of Madonna. They checked every album and when they reached "American Life" from the early 2000s (of which i have never heard before) it really kicked me. What should i say: although i am into Metal from the very beginning in the early 1980s and didn't follow the path of Madonna that much (her singles were all around....) THIS SONG AND THE WHOLE ALBUM REALLY KICKED ME! Great and awesome songs with unbelievable catchy melodies. And: she looked so cool back then. Just .....great!

I saw an interview when this album came out where they were praising her for the albums she had made prior to this and how well they had done and how she finally got Grammys and this album was not a huge success (idk?) she was accustomed to and she stayed very diplomatic in her response, “I was able to make an album full of my own music that’s a complete success to me. If one person buys it and enjoys it that’s success to me”
