Her solo career started off as an MC on popular Korean shows "Time Machine" and "Happy Together". Her first album Stylish...E, released in 2003, was her most successful album, winning 13 "Daesangs" (the most prestigious of Korean music award), 7 "Female Solo Artist of the Year" awards and selling over 170,000 copies in Korea.
A couple of years later Lee released her highly anticipated yet controversial second album Dark Angel, starred in a mini-drama, and became the highest-paid female singer in South Korea to date.
Lee has since released a 4-track digital single called Toc Toc Toc. It became the best-selling album for its month of release, selling 27,845 copies.
She released a third album, It's Hyorish on July 16, 2008.
Hyori released her fourth album, H-Logic on the 14th of April, 2010.
Lee Hyori released her fifth album, Monochrome on the 21st of May, 2013.
Lee Hyori released her sixth and latest album, BLACK on the November 8, 2017.

The lyrics of "Dark Angel" by 이효리 (Lee Hyori) express a woman's decision to let go of a toxic relationship. The song starts with the woman seeing through the lies of her partner: "뻔한 거짓은 다 보여 (I see through your obvious lies)". She no longer believes him, and she can easily spot the traces of other women on his clothes as she sings "your clothes have traces of other women soaked in."
As the song continues, the woman becomes increasingly dismissive of her partner. She describes his actions and choices as pathetic, and she doesn't care about his cries for sympathy. For her, the relationship is like poison, and she's decided to end it for good. She declares that she won't shed tears for him anymore.
