In December 2015, Cube Entertainment announced that they were preparing to debut a boy group in mid-2016, four years after BTOB's debut.
The final lineup of Pentagon was decided through Mnet's reality program Pentagon Maker. Pentagon Maker aired online through Mnet's digital content brand, M2, and showcased the members challenging five aspects: Performance, Dance, Teamwork, Talent and Mind. By the end of the show, Jinho, Hui, Hongseok, Yeo One, Yuto, Kino and Wooseok were confirmed as the official members of the group. The group was originally scheduled to host their debut concert on July 23, 2016 at Jamsil Indoor Stadium, but Cube Entertainment delayed the concert and debut date of the group because of some internal issues.
On September 30, 2016, Pentagon were confirmed to debut on October 10, 2016. It was also confirmed that the group would be debuting with ten members, including the members eliminated from Pentagon Maker: E'Dawn, Shinwon and Yan An.
Pentagon released their first mini album Pentagon on October 10, 2016. Pentagon is composed of seven tracks, including the title-track "Gorilla". The group also held their debut showcase on the same day.
They held their first solo concert, on December 6 at the Yes24 Live Hall in Gwangjin District, Seoul. The tickets for the concert were sold out within eight minutes of going on sale. On December 7, the group released their second mini-album Five Senses, including the title-track "감이 오지 (Can You Feel It)".
On March 29, Pentagon released their first Japanese mini album Gorilla. The album contains Japanese versions of their previous songs and two new Japanese tracks.
On May 1, Hui and E'Dawn debuted in the sub-unit Triple H with Hyuna. The mini album, named 199X, contains title track "365 Fresh" and three other songs.
On May 18, Pentagon pre-released a special track titled "Beautiful" which was produced by BTOB's Ilhoon. Soon after the song's release, they announced plans for a comeback with album titled Ceremony. Unfortunately, Yan An was unable to participate in comeback activities due to an injury. The music video for title track "Critical Beauty" was released on June 12.

THEORY

MY THEORIES :
the mv not fully follows the meaning of the lyrics, in the lyrics ,they are talking about just a part of the story in the MV. The lyrics only related to hongseok n yuto's stories. While the others, they are actually show many love situations that can happen in this world.
1) jinho , having secret crush on that girl, but never confessed
2) hui edawn , they love the same girl but theyre still bestfriends
3) yanan , meeting the same interest girl. (Coincidence love) (same color)
4) also yanan + wooseok , yanan's gf ended up being with another man(wooseok), as she gave the same shirt to wooseok.
5) kino+yeoone - gay love , that will never have a happy ending
6) hongseok - love story in the lyrics. They know they need to break up, but they are still wishin to stay (thats why they cried)
7) yuto - same story as hongseok, yuto wished that girl to be full of flower(happiness) in his dream but.. When he woke up, he realized he's being stupid for wishing her happiness when she dont ever need yuto anymore ( refers to, when they walked different ways outside the bus)

i think i finally understand the mv! ok so first you have to read the translation of the song and maybe you can search up the meaning of the colour Violet. it has a lot to do about emotions and meditation ( very deep ) .
as you see, the first half of the video is when they all were super calm and there were several members that has happy moments with that girl but suddenly after kino and yeo one saw each other, the plot was twisted.
based on the lyrics, the song is about break up and wanting to hold the girl again like they used to. the first half of the mv might be the past,who were happy and still together with the girl but the second part is the negative effect of them remembering the memories they had with that girl. basically all members were facing a hard time after the break up.
the song questions the girl a lot like
" do u feel hurt "
" can we be together again " and it also says things like
" i remember the colour u had "
" your words were like flowers " that's why there were flowers in the mv, then you must be thinking, "why did they describe her as violet out of all colours"
violet has a deep meaning but i did very little research but it makes enough sense to suit the mv. violet is a colour to express self thought. which is why u see the members were staring out the windows a lot. they were thinking deeply and were very aware of space and time. violet is used to express communication, which is why you see the girl crying and laughing along with the members, violet is a deep colour with emotion, that is why the song is called Violet.
this whole mv is about the girl representing the members' past (their ex) , the whole bus ride is abt them remembering the old times when they saw that girl. that girl is their imagination. that girl represents their memory and emotion.
