The Road I'm On
3 Doors Down Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

She said, "Life's a lot to think about sometimes
When you're living in between the lines
And all the stars are sparkling, shine everyday"

He said, "Life's so hard to move in sometimes
When it feels like I'm towin' the line
And no one even cares to ask me, why I feel this way"
And I know you feel helpless now
And I know you feel alone
That's the same road
And the same road that I'm on, yeah

He said, "Life's a lot to think about sometimes
When you keep it all between the lines
And everything I want and I want to find one of these days" yeah

But what you thought was real in life
Oh, has somehow steered you wrong
And now you just keep drivin'
Tryin' to find out where you could belong

And I know you feel helpless now
And I know you feel alone
Well that's the same road
And the same road that I'm on, yeah, yeah, yeah, hey, hey

What you thought was real in life
Has somehow steered you wrong
And now you just keep drivin'
Tryin' to find where you belong

I know you feel helpless now
And I know you feel alone
That's the same road
And the same road that I'm on, yeah, yeah, yeah, hey, hey

Oh no, no, no, no, no, no

Oh no, no, no
Oh no, no, no, no

Overall Meaning

The song "The Road I'm On" by 3 Doors Down is a powerful and relatable track that touches on themes of feeling lost, lonely, and unsure about where one's life is headed. The first two lines of the song alternate between the perspectives of two different individuals discussing the difficulties they face in life. The first person says that life can be overwhelming at times and it's easy to feel lost and directionless. They mention the beauty of the stars, perhaps as a metaphor for the little things in life that bring joy despite the darkness. The second person agrees that life can be difficult to navigate, and they feel like they are stuck and no one is there to help them.

The chorus speaks to the feelings of hopelessness and loneliness that both individuals are experiencing. They both feel like they are driving on the same road, figuratively speaking, and that they are searching for a place to belong. They are both lost and feel like they don't have answers to the questions they're asking themselves. The second verse continues with similar themes, where the singer says that they are trying to keep their life in order and stay on the right path, but things have gone wrong somehow. They continue driving, searching for answers and trying to find a place where they can belong.

Overall, 3 Doors Down's "The Road I'm On" is a heartfelt song that encourages listeners to keep pushing forward even when they feel lost and alone. The song's relatable lyrics and powerful chorus make it an anthem for anyone going through tough times.

This song was played at my friends funeral when he died at only 28 years old. It was back in 2003. It was played outside by the gravesite. Everyone was crying so hard. He died from cancer. I still get chocked up every time I hear this song.

So sorry for your loss, but the man knew how to live if he listened to this band

@janetgoltz9368

Thank you. Yes he did love the group and I've always thought they are awesome! I grew up only 35 minutes from where they grew up in Mississippi so I think that's so neat. Have a nice day. :)
