Miles Away
'a' Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You're miles away

I'm not messing about, I've got a mile of self-doubt
Yeah, you're not even close yet
Because you're miles away
Another day in bed, sorting out your head
You don't know what you're thinking about
You're not right all of the time
Its funny when you're wrong

You're miles away, no one can stop me
So far, it's funny when you're falling over

You're the robot voice, and the people's choice
Yeah, you blink and it goes wrong
Because you're miles away
You're not even warm, human after all
You don't know what you're talking about

You're not right all of the time
Its funny when you're wrong

You're miles away, no one can stop me
So far, it's funny when you're falling over, oh!

I'm too skint to pay my debtors
Uh-oh unopened letters
Feels like a siege I'm under
How did you get my number?
Oh oh, it's for the better
Than on the never ever
I'll get back and back and back
And back and back and back, around we go

You're miles away, no one can stop me
So far, it's funny when you're falling over

Miles away, no one can stop me
So far, it's funny when you're falling over

You're not right all of the time
It's funny when you're wrong

You're not right all of the time
It's funny when you're wrong

Overall Meaning

The song "Miles Away" by the band "a" is about the singer feeling distant and disconnected from their partner or someone they care about. The first verse mentions the singer's own self-doubt, while the rest of the song seems to be directed towards someone else who is not listening or paying attention. The lyrics "you don't know what you're thinking about" and "you don't know what you're talking about" suggest that the other person is either confused or not communicating clearly. The chorus emphasizes the distance between the two with the repetition of "miles away", and the final verse describes the singer dealing with their own anxieties and feeling overwhelmed.

The lines "you're the robot voice, and the people's choice" could suggest that the other person is trying to conform to what others want them to be, rather than being true to themselves. The mention of unopened letters and being under siege may imply that the singer is also dealing with external pressures and stresses. Despite all of these obstacles, the singer seems determined to keep pushing forward with the repeated refrain of "I'll get back and back and back and back and back and back, around we go."

My grandfather grew up in those fields his whole life and worked them until the day his body gave out. Now I’m the first member of my family to go to college. I’m a senior at UOP in Stockton. This story just hits home on so many levels. I’m honored to be watching an early showing on Aug 30 at the University, in which he will be attending 🧡 ✊🏾 🇲🇽 Si Se Puede!

Congrats man!

@rgdssd

Congratulations!

@Pwn3540

Nice. I also went to SJDC and transferred to UOP and graduated last year, and I haven't met Jose Hernandez myself but he was always at events that involved MESA and other science and engineering events from both schools, and many of my friends met him.

@wetguavass

working in the fields is better than gong to college .....

@therealjesuschrist9160

@@wetguavass thinking like that is what’s going to keep our people in those fields for centuries to come.
