Salt
(Sandy) Alex G Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Into my big cloud
I'm flying all the time
I'm happy
Into your bedroom
I'm watching your backside
I'm trying
Out through my window
I'm deeper all the time

Did you hear what I said?
I got salt in my head

Don't make me hurt you
I'm watching you from here
I'm happy
Eyeing and tapping
A wrecking ball of fear
I'm lying
Don't take me with you
I'm happy where I am

Today I washed my hands

I want to be alone
I want to fry

Overall Meaning

(Sandy) Alex G's song "Salt" is a haunting and introspective track that delves deep into the psyche of the songwriter. The song is characterized by dreamy instrumentation, with a repeating guitar riff that adds a layer of tension to the track. The lyrics are cryptic and filled with metaphors, making it somewhat difficult to discern the meaning at first glance.

The song's opening lines refer to the singer flying into a "big cloud" and feeling happy. This could be interpreted as a metaphor for escaping from reality and seeking refuge in one's own thoughts. The next lines describe the singer watching someone's backside (presumably a lover), and trying to get closer to them. However, the singer also feels guilty about looking and feels a sense of fear (represented by a "wrecking ball") that prevents them from getting too close.

The chorus of the song is the most striking part, with (Sandy) Alex G singing "Did you hear what I said? / I got salt in my head." This could be taken in a few different ways. Salt is often associated with purification and cleansing, so it's possible that the singer is trying to clear their mind of negative thoughts. Alternatively, salt could represent pain or suffering, which would fit with the darker tone of the song. The remainder of the lyrics touch on themes of obsession and the desire for solitude, with the final line of the song ("I want to fry") leaving the impression of someone burning up from the inside out.

Overall, "Salt" is a song that invites multiple interpretations, making it a fascinating piece of music to analyze and dissect.

I was sitting outside tonight and decided to put on some music, this came song came on and I just stared at the sky and the stars having a sort of existential hopeless moment and then saw a shooting star!!! It was beautiful and felt like everything’s gonna be okay... that’s what I associate this song with now :)

This is literally my favorite song. When I listen, I feel a melancholy resentment, but at the same time a satisfaction. There is no comparison to hearing her looking at the moon.

First time seeing him a few weeks ago, he and his band were great, he hit the falsetto's no problem. I was expecting his voice to break but he played it out flawlessly. Really impressive artist.
