The truth
(həd) p.e Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When we first met you said: "Hold on to me"
Keep my eyes wide open, keep my eyes wide open
So I'll pick up some straw dolls and I'll burn them down
Keep on feeding our bonfire
And I'll put my rusty heart into a pretty little matchbox
For yours too rugged to be preserved
And we'll be ancient stars colliding into each other's atmosphere
Stones in our pockets, but so easy to fly away
But this ain't a song about truth
And it's so hard to take
This ain't a song about truth
And it hurts so bad
I'm king of rain and poor of everything
Since you've run run run run run away
You've run run run run run away
You've run run run run run away
You've run run run run run away
And I will give you all of my strength if you ever need protection
For you're too rare to forget
And we could screw it up or maybe find perfection
Just learn to be loved, loved as you loved me so far
But this ain't a song about truth
And it's so hard to take
This ain't a song about truth
And it hurts so bad
I'm king of rain and poor of everything
Since you've run run run run run away
You've run run run run run away
You've run run run run run away
You've run run run run run away
But this ain't a song about truth
And it's so hard to take
This ain't a song about truth
And it hurts so bad
My truth is wasted under pouring rains
Still praying for a song about truth
Still praying for a song about truth

Still praying for my song about truth
Still praying for my song about truth

Overall Meaning

The song "The Truth" by (həd) p.e is filled with emotion and an intense longing for someone who has run away. The lyrics begin with the memory of when the two first met, when the other person urged the singer to hold on to them and keep their eyes open. However, despite this, the other person has run away, leaving the singer feeling like they are the "king of rain and poor of everything". The singer then mentions wanting to burn straw dolls while feeding a bonfire, symbolic of letting go of the past and moving on.

The singer also speaks of putting their "rusty heart into a pretty little matchbox" for the other person, as their heart is too rugged to be preserved. The two individuals are compared to ancient stars colliding into each other's atmosphere, with stones in their pockets but still able to fly away. The singer is willing to give all their strength for the other person's protection, recognizing their rarity and the possibility of finding perfection in the relationship.

Despite all of this, the singer acknowledges that the song is not about truth, and it hurts so bad. The truth is wasted under pouring rains, and the singer is still praying for a song about truth. The song is a poignant reflection on the difficulties in finding and keeping love, and the pain that comes with loss.
