The band was formed by rapper Jared Gomes, also known as "M.C.U.D." (MC Underdog), and guitarist Wes Geer, who became friends amidst the Orange County hardcore punk scene. Gomes and Geer recruited guitarist Chizad, bassist Mawk, drummer B.C. Vaught and DJ Product © 1969. They named the group "Hed", which stands for "higher education". The band built a following with their energetic performances at local venues, and released the self-financed extended play, Church of Realities. Legal issues forced Hed to change their name, adding PE, which stood for Planet Earth.

All day long Peer Pressure
The song "Peer Pressure" by (hed) Planet Earth is a commentary on the pervasive and insidious nature of peer pressure. The repetitive nature of the lyrics underscores the relentlessness of the pressure to conform, as the singer repeats, "I don't want to do it" over and over again, only to be met with the refrain of "Come on, come on" and "All the kids are doing it." The pressure is not limited to any one particular behavior, as the singer reveals that they don't want to drink, smoke, or engage in sexual activity, but the pressure to do so is all-encompassing.
The use of the phrase "All the kids are doing it" is particularly significant, as it highlights the social aspect of peer pressure. The desire to fit in and be accepted by one's peers is a powerful motivator, and the fear of being ostracized or ridiculed can often override one's own personal values and desires. The repeated use of the phrase "Peer Pressure" serves to further emphasize the ubiquity of this phenomenon, as if to suggest that it is an inevitability that we must all face.
Overall, "Peer Pressure" is a poignant and unsettling commentary on the psychological and social pressures that we all face, particularly during our adolescent years. It serves as a reminder that we must remain vigilant in protecting our own values and beliefs, even in the face of intense social pressure.
